ABC's WORLD NEWS TONIGHT WITH DAVID MUIR Is No. 1 in Total Viewers

ABC News' WORLD NEWS TONIGHT WITH DAVID MUIR ranked No. 1 in Total Viewers (7.987 million) for the week of October 17, 2016, based on Live + Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. "World News Tonight" led "NBC Nightly News" (7.970 million) by 17,000 to win for the 4th time in the 5 weeks of the season.

"World News Tonight" ranked No. 1 in 3 of 5 nights during the week in Total Viewers leading "NBC Nightly News" on Monday (+18,000), Wednesday (+466,000 - the night of the 3rd Presidential Debate) and Friday (+103,000).

"World News Tonight" improved on the same week last year (7.846 million and 1.134 million, respectively, on w/o 10/19/15) in Total Viewers (+2%) and Adults 18-49 (+8%) for the 4th time in the last 5 weeks. In addition, "World News Tonight" stood as the only evening newscast to grow year to year in Total Viewers, as "CBS Evening News" (-6%) and "NBC Nightly News" (-2%) both lost viewers.

Season to date, "World News Tonight" ranks No. 1 in Total Viewers for the first time in 9 years - since the 2007-08 season. "World News Tonight" is improving versus the same point last season in Total Viewers (+234,000 - 8.258 million vs. 8.024 million), drawing its largest overall viewer audience in 11 years - since the 2005-06 season.

In addition, "World News Tonight" leads "Nightly News" by 152,000 (8.258 million vs. 8.106 million) for its largest season advantage over the NBC program at this point of the season in 20 years - since the 1996-97 season.

For the week, "World News Tonight" beat the "CBS Evening News" by 1.577 million Total Viewers, by 271,000 Adults 25-54 and by 211,000 Adults 18-49.

NOTE: Due NFL on Thursday (10/20/16), "CBS Evening News" was retitled to "CBS Evening Nws" and was excluded from the weekly averages. CBS' averages are based on 4 days (Mon-Wed and Fri).
