Singer/Songwriter NAT JAY Releases Debut Album Today

Over the last few years, Canadian singer/songwriter Nat Jay has been making quite the name for herself. 2008 saw the release of her first EP, Lights Across The Sky, which revealed a new voice with a lot to say, and over the subsequent years, she continued building and experimenting with her sonic palette. What's resulted from those past few years is her debut album, All I Think When I Wake Up, out internationally today, September 23rd.

All I Think When I Wake Up was recorded at Fader Mountain Sound in Vancouver, Canada. This studio is formerly the renowned Little Mountain Sound, where acts like Aerosmith, AC/DC, Bon Jovi, and Bryan Adams recorded in the '80s with producers Bruce Fairbairn and Bob Rock. The majority of Jay's debut album was recorded in two days, live off the floor with renowned, platinum-selling Canadian rock band The Odds. All I Think When I Wake Up was produced by Winston Hauschild (Hannah Georgas, Wanting, Hey Ocean).

'Winston and I talked a lot about what direction we wanted to take this album,' Jay writes, 'What kind of overall sound we wanted. Did we want to add electronic elements or make a country album or keep it folkie? After much discussion, and looking at the collection of songs we had, we decided to be true to what each song needed, whatever that might be. Not restricting ourselves to a particular style or genre gave us the creative freedom we needed to bring out the best in each song.'

Jay's debut album really encapsulates this freedom of expression and desire to expand her own musical sphere to include a wide range of sounds and genres. Between the electro-pop of 'Can't Getcha Out,' - which recently won the 'Best of BC' award by Shore 104.3FM, to the Americana, sun-drenched feel of 'Built A Wall' and 'Cover Your Tracks,' with a little country twang in 'Love Me Too,' and building out with the anthemic 'This City,' the record demonstrates Nat Jay's versatile hand at songwriting and showcases an already fully-formed artist.

Many have heard Jay's songs already, across the world. Her first demo, 'Love When I Can' was placed in a poignant, emotional end-of-episode montage on ABC's Men In Trees, launching her career as an artist of international potential. Since then, her music has been placed in film and television on major networks worldwide, allowing her to connect with fans in multiple countries. Songs from the upcoming album have already been placed in television shows like Syfy's Continuum, Heartland and Arctic Air. She's also been a CBC Featured Artist, and received a major grant for the recording of All I Think When I Wake Up from the Canadian government's Foundation Assisting Canadian Talent on Recordings (FACTOR).

All I Think When I Wake Up shows Nat Jay at her most ready - poised to make a considerable splash with this debut album, building on her successes of the last six years, and continuing a career of songwriting that's established her as one of Canada's most promising young artists.
