Richmond Symphony Welcomes Return of SUMMER AT CENTERSTAGE Series Today by BWW News Desk
- July 09, 2015 The Richmond Symphony (RSO) is happy to announce its Summer at CenterStage series of recitals for summer 2015, in association with the University of Richmond Department of Music, VCU | School of the Arts | Department of Music, and Richmond CenterStage. The series is made up of eight casual, one-hour evening concerts this year featuring the music of Claude Debussy and works influenced to varying degrees by French Romanticism. Performances take place in Richmond CenterStage's Libby S. Gottwald Playhouse on Thursdays, today, July 9, through August 27, 2015 at 6:30 p.m.

California Symphony to Present THE WIZARD OF OZ with Live Orchestra Accompaniment, 8/21 by BWW News Desk
- July 08, 2015 WALNUT CREEK, CA (July 7, 2015) – The California Symphony presents the beloved classic 1939 film The Wizard of Oz, and performs the complete, live orchestral accompaniment as the movie is shown on a giant screen at the Concord Pavilion in Concord, Friday, August 21 at 8:30 pm. Conductor Sarah Hicks leads the orchestra in some of the best-loved movie songs and music of all time, including Harold Arlen and E.Y. “Yip” Harburg's “Over the Rainbow,” “We're Off to See the Wizard,” “If I Only Had a Brain,” “Ding-Dong! The Witch is Dead,” “The Merry Old Land of Oz,” and many more, as well as the underscore by composer Herbert Stothart. Judy Garland and the other actors' original vocal performances are preserved and enhanced, so they can be fully heard and enjoyed as the orchestra plays. The film's restored images are accompanied by the orchestra playing entirely new transcriptions of Harold Arlen's brilliant lost scores. The production is by Emmy Award-winning producer John Goberman (Live from Lincoln Center). - July 08, 2015 Orange County, Calif.—July 7, 2015—“Symphony in the Cities” is not only the perfect way to end a lazy summer day, but it's also Pacific Symphony's way of saying thanks to the community by throwing a big party with music for its Orange County neighbors! Each summer, thousands gather with their loved ones to enjoy listening to the orchestra in a relaxed outdoor setting. This season, in addition to patriotic fare and classical pieces, Music Director Carl St.Clair has invited five singers to pay tribute to the famous von Trapps by performing memorable songs from one of the most beloved musicals of all time, “The Sound of Music.” Members of the audience also have a special opportunity to decide which of three well-known excerpts they would like to hear: Dvorák's Symphony No. 9, “From the New World,” Mozart's “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik (A Little Night Music),” or Beethoven's Symphony No. 5. Baltimore Symphony Orchestra Announces New Concert Series PULSE by BWW News Desk
- July 07, 2015 The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra (BSO) is partnering with WTMD 89.7 to present a new concert series, PULSE, pairing members of the orchestra with prominent indie bands to explore musical connections that cross genres. The bands and concert dates are:Dawes (Thursday, September 24, 2015); Wye Oak (Thursday, November 12, 2015); Dr. Dog (Thursday, March 24, 2016); and The Lone Bellow (Thursday, April 28, 2016). Each show opens with a performance by members of the orchestra conducted by BSO Assistant Conductor Nicholas Hersh followed by a set featuring the headliner band, and will culminate with the two groups performing on stage together.

- July 03, 2015 The sounds of Scandinavia and the Baltic come to Southland when Los Angeles Children's Chorus (LACC), led by Artistic Director Anne Tomlinson, hosts a highly anticipated international choral exchange with the renowned Estonian TV Girls' Choir and Finland's Vox Aurea ("The Golden Voice") culminating with a free concert featuring all three choirs on Wednesday, July 22, 7 pm, at Pasadena Presbyterian Church. Vox Aurea, led by Sanna Salminen, makes its first Southland appearance since 2009, thrilling audiences with a range of traditional Finnish folk songs and classical selections that evoke the peaceful and expansive landscape of Scandinavia. The Estonian TV Girls' Choir, under the direction of Aarne Saluveer, has collaborated with such acclaimed Estonian composers as Arvo Part, Veljo Tormis, Urmas Sisask and Tõnis Magi and also performs regional folk music as well as contemporary jazz and pop music. - July 01, 2015 Summer at the Saint Paul Conservatory of Music gets into full swing on July 6 with its annual camp, the Children's Music Workshop, a St. Paul institution for over fifteen years. Campers ages 6-12 will fill the historic Exchange Building and spill out into the McNally Smith courtyard for lunch, breaks, and impromptu concerts for mid-day passersby. Conservatory faculty provide inspiration through classes in music history, theory, choir and a choice of electives, while guest artists from all over the Twin Cities provide performance and hands-on experiences at the end of each camp day.
