Oakland Symphony to Kick Off Season with Bates Premiere, & More, 10/2

The Oakland Symphony opens its 22nd season with a West Coast premiere by Bay Area composer Mason Bates Friday, October 2, at 8 pm at the Paramount Theatre in Oakland. The program, with Music Director and conductor Michael Morgan on the podium, includes the West Coast premiere of Bates's Devil's Radio, Prokofiev's Violin Concerto No. 2 with guest soloist and young Bay Area artist Kenneth Renshaw, selections from Brahms' Liebeslieder Waltzes with the Oakland Symphony Chorus conducted by Lynne Morrow, who celebrates her tenth year with the Chorus, and Rachmaninoff's Symphonic Dances. The Oakland Symphony 2015-2016 season is sponsored by the California Arts Council, Art Works, the National Endowment for the Arts, the City of Oakland and the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation. Yo-Yo Ma & Kathryn Stott Coming to Omaha in 2016

Omaha Performing Arts announced today the addition of Yo-Yo Ma and Kathryn Stott in Recital to its 2015-2016 season. The performance will be Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at 7:30 p.m. in the Kiewit Concert Hall of the Holland Performing Arts Center, 1200 Douglas St. The rectangular shape of the hall – inspired by the 100-year-old Musikverein in Vienna – is ideal for the concert: Allowing superior quality of sound with acoustical clarity and a rich reverberation.

Soundstreams launches its 2015/2016 season with a concert reimagining the possibilities of voice and percussion, Adrianne Pieczonka: Beyond the Aria, on September 29, 2015 at Koerner Hall. Featuring renowned Canadian soprano Adrianne Pieczonka, this concert is a rare opportunity to hear her haunting interpretations of an eclectic range of 20th-century repertoire. STAR TREK: THE ULTIMATE VOYAGE to Stop at Atlanta's Fox Theatre in January 2016

CineConcerts, CBS Consumer Products and Paramount Pictures will launch Star Trek: The Ultimate Voyage, a North American concert tour playing performing arts centers in more than 100 cities including Atlanta's Fox Theatre Saturday, Jan. 30 at 8 p.m. The tour launches in Florida in January 2016 and will travel throughout the U.S. and Canada through the end of April 2016. An exclusive pre-tour engagement will be held at Royal Albert Hall in London on November 1, 2015.

In an extraordinary life that grappled with racial tensions, interracial liaisons, personal scandals and politics, lyric tenor Roland Hayes (1887 – 1977), was the first African American man to reach international fame as a concert performer and one of the few artists who could sell out Carnegie Hall and other major venues.  Once called the “Black Caruso,” Hayes was also hailed as one of the greatest performers of the 20th century.  On October 4, critically acclaimed baritone Robert Sims will honor Hayes with a concert featuring African American spirituals, arranged by Hayes and narrated by George Shirley, in conjunction with his latest recording Robert Sims Sings the Spirituals of Roland Hayes.
