Luther Burbank Center for the Arts and the Santa Rosa Symphony Present A CHARLIE BROWN CHRISTMAS CONCERT by BWW News Desk
- November 03, 2016 Luther Burbank Center for the Artsand the Santa Rosa Symphony present a special holiday treat as a part of the2016-2017 Symphony Pops Series on Sunday, December 11 at 3 p.m. with A Charlie Brown Christmas Concert. Quickly becoming a favorite on everyone's holiday “must-do” list, this festive afternoon concert features songs from the 1965 classic “Peanuts” animated special as well as other traditional Christmas favorites. Special guest pianist and Steinway Artist Jim Martinez, along with his Quartet, join the Santa Rosa Symphony under the baton of Principal Pops Conductor Michael Berkowitz in paying tribute to famous Snoopy songs, with music written or arranged by Vince Guaraldi.

- November 03, 2016 On Tuesday, November 29 at 8:00PM at the St. Ignatius of Antioch Church, 552 West End Ave. at 87th St, American Classical Orchestra presents a program of J.S Bach's cantatas; Es wartet alles auf dich, opening chorus BWV 187; Nun Komm der Heiden Heiland, opening chorus BWV 62; Christ lag in Todesbanden, BWV 4; Cantata: Aus der Tiefen rufe ich, BWV 131; Cantata: Nach dir, Herr, verlanget mich BWV 150 , Meine Seel erhebt den Herren, opening chorus BWV 10 and Sinfonia from Cantata: Ich habe meine Zuversicht, BWV 188. Cantatas were the daily work of the master composer. A selection of Bach's most uplifting cantatas will be sung by the acclaimed American Classical Orchestra Chorus with selected soloists in the ideal acoustic hall of St. Ignatius of Antioch Church. This concert is conducted by Thomas Crawford.

Music Director Thierry Fischer Leads Utah Symphony in 'Alexander Nevsky', 11/18-19 by BWW News Desk
- November 03, 2016 Music Director Thierry Fischer leads the Utah Symphony and Utah Symphony Chorus prepared by Dr. Barlow Bradford in Prokofiev's remarkable cantata, “Alexander Nevsky” with the help of Russian mezzo-soprano Alisa Kolosova and the University of Utah Choirs on November 18 and 19 at 7:30 PM at Abravanel Hall. The all-Prokofiev program will also feature the composer's Symphonic Suite from the film, “Lieutenant Kijé” – both the cantata and suite will be recorded live for later release. Also on the program, Utah Symphony Concertmaster Madeline Adkins will make her Utah Symphony concerto debut in a performance of Prokofiev's Concerto No. 2 for Violin. The Salute Series includes large-scale, free performances on Memorial Day, July 3 on Independence Mall, July 4 at Philadelphia's Independence Day morning ceremony and evening concert, Veterans Day ceremonies at several locations throughout the city, and December's Third Annual Comcast NBCUniversal I'll Be Home for Christmas: A Salute to the Military and First Responders benefit concert. Salute performances recognize the sacrifice of those dedicated to a collective identity of American values and tradition, often in locations of particular resonance to those who attend. Salute concerts feature the presentation of the colors, the Star Spangled Banner and other patriotic music. Over 50,000 are expected to attend Salute Series events in 2016-17 — the largest audience for any Philly POPS concert series.

- November 02, 2016 Celebrating the unique ability of music and the arts to address challenging social and moral issues, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (LACO) presents LIFT EVERY VOICE, a three-week, city-wide series of free and ticketed concerts, conversations and community engagement curated by LACO Music Director Jeffrey Kahane from January 14 to 29, 2017, at venues across the Southland. LIFT EVERY VOICE, conceived and curated by Kahane to explore themes of tolerance, compassion, cooperation and creativity along with the power of music to encourage understanding and promote peace, was inspired by the lives of human and civil rights champions Rabbi Joachim Prinz, composer Kurt Weill and Martin Luther King, Jr. The series is a signature part of Kahane's 20th and final LACO season, which features programming that reflects his far-reaching impact, broad musical sensibilities, distinctive philosophical interests and tremendous artistic passion. Among LIFT EVERY VOICE's highlights are the first Los Angeles performance since the 1950s of Weill's profound anti- apartheid musical Lost in the Stars, directed by Anne Bogart, and Weill/Brecht's satirical The Seven Deadly Sins with chanteuse Storm Large, both provocative works addressing weighty moral issues; violinist Daniel Hope featured on the U.S. premiere of Weill's Song-Suite For Violin and Orchestra arranged by Paul Bateman; the West Coast premiere of Bruce Adolphe's Violin Concerto “I Will Not Remain Silent”; a joint performance with the Inner City Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles (ICYOLA); and symposiums a chamber music program and film screenings.

- November 01, 2016 Thomas Dausgaard, principal conductor of the Swedish Chamber Orchestra, chief conductor designate of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and principal guest conductor of the Seattle Symphony, makes his Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra debut guest conducting the West Coast premiere of A Freak in Burbank, a romping homage to filmmaker Tim Burton by Swedish composer Albert Schnelzer, on Saturday, October 29, 8 pm, at the Alex Theatre in Glendale, and Sunday, October 30, 2016, 7 pm, at UCLA's Royce Hall. Dausgaard also conducts Beethoven's inventive and heroic Symphony No. 3, "Eroica," and six of Sibelius's Humoresques for violin and orchestra, featuring Norwegian violinist Henning Kraggerud, praised for his "utter brilliance" (The Strad).
