The season will be The Cleveland Orchestra's 100th year of concerts and marks the launch of its Second Century. The Cleveland Orchestra holds a long-standing commitment to choral music in which community members of all ages may have the opportunity to participate. - April 11, 2017 Cartography, the second solo album by intrepid cellist Mariel Roberts, comes out Friday, May 19 on New Focus Recordings, with a 10 pm release show that evening at National Sawdust. Cartography features first recordings of dauntingly virtuosic pieces written for Roberts by four New York-based composers: Cenk Ergün, Davi? Brynjar Franzson,George Lewis, and Eric Wubbels, who joins her on piano for his gretchen am spinnrade. Inspired by Roberts' technical wizardry and interpretive élan, her collaborators have created music that takes the cello into uncharted realms, requiring intense concentration, razor-sharp precision, and almost superhuman endurance. Yet in Roberts' hands, the works transcend their technical demands to emerge as deeply moving meditations on time – the cartography of subjective human experience.

- April 11, 2017 This June, acclaimed pianist Simone Dinnerstein embarks on a tour with the Havana Lyceum Orchestra in their American debut to perform works from her new album, Mozart in Havana. Recorded with the orchestra in Cuba last June, it may be her most ambitious to date and is a testament to music's ability to cross cultural and language barriers. The tour will be the first time an orchestra of this size has traveled to the U.S. from Cuba since the revolution.

- April 11, 2017 Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra presents the West Coast premiere of John Adams' two-piano tour de force Roll Over Beethoven for its Westside Connections series on Thursday, May 4, 2017, 7:30 pm, at Santa Monica's Moss Theater. The program features Music Director Jeffrey Kahane, as beloved for his insightful introductions and versatility as for his artistry as a pianist and conductor, doing double-duty as piano soloist and commentator for the Beethoven-themed program. Also showcased is Beethoven's Piano Trio in B-flat major, “Archduke,” composed in 1811, which takes fragments of two late Beethoven piano works and processes them in his own transformative musical language that pays homage to the electric vitality of Beethoven's musical forms. Joining Kahane are LACO Concertmaster Margaret Batjer, who curates Westside Connections; special guest Joanne Pearce Martin, piano; and LACO Principal Cello Andrew Shulman. NPR's Renée Montagne interviews the special guests and moderates a short Q&A at the conclusion of each program.
