Utah Symphony Presents Winter Chamber Concert At St. Mary's Church

On January 18, 2019 at 7:30 PM, the Utah Symphony will perform a chamber concert at St. Mary's Church in Park City featuring a 2014 contemporary work by American composer TJ Cole alongside Haydn, Britten and Mozart. Led by Associate Conductor Conner Gray Covington, tickets go on sale on Fri. Oct. 26 and are $40. They can be purchased at utahsymphony.org or by calling (801) 533-6683.

The International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE) partners with the PWM Edition and Polish Cultural Institute New York to present 100 for 100: Musical Decades of Freedom at Roulette Intermedium on Sunday, November 11, 2018 at 8pm. Conductor Steven Schick will lead performances of works by five contemporary Polish composers in celebration of the Polish centennial of independence: Pawe? Musical America today announced Carlos Miguel Prieto as 2019 Conductor of the Year. Prieto, 52, a native of Mexico and one of that nation's most important cultural ambassadors, has been praised for his charismatic conducting and colorful and dynamic interpretations. He is a frequent guest of some of the most important orchestras in the world and serves as music director of four orchestras: Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra (since 2006), Orquesta Sinfonica Naciónal de Mexico (since 2007), Orquesta Sinfónica de Minería (since 2008) and The Orchestra of the Americas (since 2011).

Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center's Nov. Concerts to Include Premiere of Assad's Metamorfose, and More

The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center moves into fall with nine different programs in Alice Tully Hall and The Rose Studio. A special highlight will be the world premiere of Clarice Assad's Metamorfose as part of the artist-curated Art of the Recital in the Rose Studio series featuring violist Matthew Lipman and pianist Henry Kramer (Nov. 29). Assad, a Grammy-nominated Brazilian-American composer, pianist and arranger, was approached by Lipman to write a work in memory of his mother. She says that Metamorfose 'is an homage to Matt and his mom, a musical portrait of two different people, in two different worlds and instances, bound by the passage of time and love.'
Taiwan Philharmonic Tours North America Following Triumphant 2016 U.S. Debut

'One of Asia's best' (Los Angeles Times), the Taiwan Philharmonic embarks on a North American tour this fall stopping in Costa Mesa (10/30), San Diego (10/31), Seattle (11/3), and San Francisco (11/5). The orchestra, led by Maestro Shao-Chia Lü, launches the tour by returning to Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa nearly two years after their highly acclaimed United States debut at the same hall in December 2016. This time the performance features star pianist Stephen Hough performing Liszt's dazzling first piano concerto. One of today's greatest living pianists, Hough is described by The Guardian as possessing 'the most perfect piano playing conceivable.' The concert name, 'From Formosa,' gives a nod to the historic republic on the island of Taiwan while the music traces Taiwan's classical music tradition with Taiwanese composer Gordon Chin's 'Dancing Song' from Three Aboriginal Songs for Orchestra. The first performance of the tour marks the work's North American premiere.
Unsuk Chin Wins 2018 Kravis Prize For New Music

On October 11, 2018, the New York Philharmonic announces that Unsuk Chin is the fourth-ever winner of its esteemed Marie-Josée Kravis Prize for New Music. One of the world's largest new-music prizes, the Kravis Prize recognizes a composer for extraordinary artistic endeavor in the field of new music, and includes a $200,000 award and a commission to write a work for the New York Philharmonic. Chin's new orchestral work will receive its world premiere by the Philharmonic in a future season. Past prize winners include Louis Andriessen, Per Nørgård, and Henri Dutilleux.

The Philadelphia Orchestra returns to Carnegie Hall's Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage for three concerts this season under the leadership of Music Director and Conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin, who is currently celebrating the 10th anniversary of his debut with the Orchestra. The first program, on Tuesday, November 13 at 8:00 p.m., also highlights Mr. Nézet-Séguin's role as music director of The Metropolitan Opera with mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato joining the musicians for a performance of Chausson's Poème de l'amour et de la mer.
