First Book in Tea Cozy Mysteries Series is Released
by BWW News Desk - January 11, 2016
Penelope Price is new to picturesque Pacific Grove, California. Now that the Great War is over, she looks forward to setting herself up as a tearoom owner and living quietly; but when her shop's opening day preparations are cut short by the discovery of a backroom murder and she is charged as the primary suspect, she finds her hard-won idyllic life thrown into disarray. With the help of her ragtag workforce, Penelope labors to ferret out the killer and prove her innocence. As the case is solved, the truth of the matter is revealed along with a few buried truths about the town's residents and secret society. Throughout the process, Penelope learns she has a taste for both business and adventure, and perhaps even romance. 'One Lump or Two' launches on Monday, 18 January, 2016 in paperback and Kindle formats. An online release party will take place all that day with prizes awarded throughout the affair. An in-person tea party celebrating the launch is scheduled for Sunday, 31 January, 2016 at 3pm at Pamela's Tearoom in Garden Grove, CA. $15 includes a paperback book. Afternoon tea is complimentary. 'I love it!' says artist Sanndi Thompson. 'I did not suspect that [so-and-so] was the killer, so that was great, I didn't see that one coming. I enjoyed this story very much. I like that you managed to do a murder mystery and keep it non-gruesome, and non-violent. Love all the people in it; they seem very real! Fun read. I was up till midnight last night. I couldn't stop reading it!' The first in The Tea Cozy Mysteries series, 'One Lump or Two' is a 100,000 word cozy mystery set in idyllic Pacific Grove, California, just after World War I. Upcoming sequels include Reading Between the Leaves and Objets d'Artifice - stories that go deeper into the mystique and legacy of original antiques store owner Aunt Dorothea and the mysteries surrounding several of the valuables still housed in the shop. Writer Bonnie Ramsburg says, 'I love the interaction between all the characters! I loved it, loved it and can't wait for more!' The series is set to serve as the middle installment of a more expansive project involving three generations of female protagonists, beginning with suffragette Dorothea Tate's Marvels & Mysteries set in the 1890s and ending with Patsy Charleville's Social Bluebook Murders set in the 1950s. Author JS Devivre is a former tearoom owner who currently pens The Tea Traveller's Constant Companion tearoom guidebook series. She works as Headmistress of Siren School and creates Cup of Mystery whodunit tea parlour games for the Tea Travellers Societea. 'This is a world I want to live in and return to many times. So looking forward to the next installments and crossing my fingers it's made into a TV series!' ~Actress Michelle Gil

Gay Mentoring Memoir Hits Shelves During National Mentoring Month
by BWW News Desk - January 11, 2016
Some 9 million American kids wake up every day without enough guidance and support to make the kind of crucial decisions that will shape their futures. It's the kind of support that mentors like author, Aaron Kirk Douglas, believe every child should have access to. January 2016 marks the 15th year of National Mentoring Month, a campaign aimed at connecting more of our community's young people with caring, invested adults. It's also the month that Portland author and award winning mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters, Aaron Kirk Douglas' first-of-its-kind mentoring memoir comes out. And it was Douglas' own 'coming out,' in 1977, that plays an integral part in the story he shares in 'Growing Up Twice: Shaping a Future By Reliving My Past' (ISBN: 978-09970501-0-3), as he explores what it's like to be a gay, Jewish man mentoring a troubled young Latino boy named Rico (the son of an undocumented immigrant from Guatemala). For Douglas, what started as a one page 'Friendship Agreement,' had, six years later, created a whole new definition of family for both him and the boy he mentored. 'At its core the book is really about the search for acceptance by individuals who have been marginalized,' says Douglas. And though Douglas admits he didn't face many of the difficulties and obstacles that Rico experienced (living in the foster care system, the son of an illegal immigrant) he did struggle to retain a sense of hope and faith in the face of anger and rejection at home, while growing up. Douglas says, 'This is not just a story about mentoring with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, it's a story about breaking the traditional mold in that role - about how, I couldn't be just someone who showed up once a week to do homework or go out for ice cream. Rico needed more than that - he needed an invested male role model and a father figure.' 'Growing Up Twice' is available on Amazon.com and other online retailers in print, and as an ebook download. For more information on 'Growing Up Twice' visit the publisher's website at: http://www.newsworthybooks.com About the Author Aaron Kirk Douglas is a life-long creative, a passionate philanthropist, and award-winning mentor with over a decade's experience in mentoring at-risk youth. A journalism graduate of the University of Oregon and former marketing director at some of the largest and most prominent law and commercial real estate firms in the Pacific Northwest, Douglas is also an award-winning documentary filmmaker, whose film Monster Camp was lauded by Variety. He is currently working on a new musical in development with co-conductor of Broadway's Hamilton, Kurt Crowley. Svetlana Lilova Releases METAPHYSICAL DICTIONARY
by BWW News Desk - January 11, 2016
When Svetlana Lilova arrived in Canada as a teen, she didn't know a single word of English. A dictionary quickly became her indispensable companion as she strove to understand the world around her. With the publication of her first book of poetry, Metaphysical Dictionary, the older and wiser Lilova has reversed the flow. A collection of 250 very short poems, framed as term and definition and alphabetically sorted, Metaphysical Dictionary re-interprets the language through a lexicon of implications, hints, and emotions. A certified psychotherapist as well as a poet, Lilova explains that her two practices are intertwined. 'I began to compile my dictionary as I deepened my understanding that people are always searching for the essential - the essence of a problem, beyond and beneath its circumstantial specifics. In the process we often discard the given meaning of a word and replace it with something more resonant. And that's what I do with these poems: each one is a tiny quest for resonance, a private language.' Published by Dumagrad Books of Toronto, Metaphysical Dictionary is finding an eager readership beyond the usual audience for poetry, serving as an inspiration to those who seek self-understanding through their own journals, diaries, sketchbooks or scrapbooks. Metaphysical Dictionary will be available for $14.95 on February 2, 2016 from select Toronto bookstores and boutiques, from Amazon, and directly from the publisher at dumagrad.com.
