The Refuseniks is a new play by Alison Bendix, set in the Soviet Union around 1978, depicting the challenges faced by a group of Jewish dissidents denied exit visas. The story follows Yuri Alexandrov, a physicist-turned-activist, as he confronts both the Soviet regime and his KGB handler in a desperate quest to secure freedom for his fellow citizens. Directed by Tony Simotes, the production features a robust cast, including three-time Obie Award winner Rocco Sisto as Yuri and Annette Miller as his mother, Olga. The play explores themes of courage, sacrifice, and the complexities of love amidst oppression.
