“Climate Crisis Cabaret: The Warm-Up”: a new cabaret fusing the arts and climate activism; directed by Debra Wise and David Keohane, with emcee John Kuntz.
Let's see. Climate Change. That catch-all phrase has been tossed around for years, at least since the 1850s. What followed? Decades of pesky chicken littles yammering about "acorns" falling on their heads. There's no drama in that. In fact, it's boring.
But add a clima(c)tic twist via a slight turn of phrase, pack a CRISIS into a CABARET and you have exciting theatrical possibilities, an entertainment that opens up alternatives, that goes beyond doom and gloom. Our program will be an invigorating mix of theatre, comedy, song, and readings that tap into the deep and complex emotions stirred by the climate crisis.
Among the featured writers and artists: Anton Chekhov, Madeleine George, Elana Greenfield, Duncan MacMillan, Ted Hughes, and Phyllis Ewen. The performance will be followed by a lively post-show conversation among performers, scientists, and activists. Also helping to get the word out about what can be done: a lobby streetfair of groups engaged in climate activism.
The hope is that the cabaret will inspire our community to act while it encourages more climate crisis programming among our local theaters. So come to this cabaret, ol' chums … to the Climate Crisis Cabaret. We invite you to sit and share your hopes, fears, passion, love, and energy. And to join in the cause. This is a "Warm-Up" for what we hope will be a series, a performance endeavor whose fusion of theater and activism meets the moment, with the following participants: climatecrisiscabaret.org/the-cabaret.html
Ages: All ages welcome.
