Michael Gandolfi To Present FROM LANDSCAPE TO SOUNDSCAPE: THE GARDEN OF COSMIC SPECULATION IN MUSIC,
An Arts Speak lecture examines how landscape, physics, and imagination shape contemporary composition.
Michael Gandolfi will present From Landscape to Soundscape: The Garden of Cosmic Speculation in Music, an in-person and livestreamed Arts Speak lecture at the Performing Arts Center, Brewster.
Gandolfi’s wide-ranging body of work reflects a deep curiosity about how music intersects with other disciplines, including science, film, education, and theater. In this talk, he traces how those interests converge in The Garden of Cosmic Speculation, the celebrated Scottish landscape inspired by mathematics, physics, and cosmology, and how its ideas translate into musical form.
Through examples and discussion, Gandolfi will explore the ways physical space, scientific thought, and abstract concepts can inform compositional structure, rhythm, and sound design—revealing how a landscape can become a soundscape.
The lecture will take place on Saturday, February 28, at 3:30 p.m. Admission is free.
