GivesMeVoice, if you say LuPone could play the role incredibly well, then why don't you think she should do it?

Well, I haven't been posting much on here recently; just reading the boards. But, by reading all of your many suggestions, this thread has made me think about who could be cast, or learn about who has already been cast, and here is how I would like the casting to go:

Fredrik Egerman: Michael Cerveris
Desiree Armfeldt: Rachel York
Count Carl-Magnus Malcolm: Patrick Wilson
Countess Charlotte Malcolm: Laura Benanti
Madame Armfeldt: Angela Lansbury
Anne Egerman: Josefina Scaglione
Henrik Egerman: Hunter Herdlicka
Petra: Kendra Kassebaum
Frid: Tony Yazbeck
Fredrika: Leah Greenhaus

Any other ideas?

Rudy2, for one, she's too old now. and I'm really bad at giving good, tangible reasons for why I don't think someone would be quite "right". I think LuPone is a phenomenal actress and could really play Desiree with the strength and vulnerability a good Desiree should have. she's just...not right.

What about Kelli O'Hara as Desiree? Is she too young even for this production? Though that will never happen because she is returning to South Pacific.

Toni Collette sounds divine, and her performance in THE WILD PARTY is one of the best I've had the privilege to see.

She will not be back on Broadway anytime soon, alas.

You can thank Mr. Patinkin for that. Not rumors, fact.

Plus, her hilarious show is a big fat hit and the second season begins filming in weeks, which will undoubtedly be followed by a third.

Kelli O'Hara is too bland for this production.

/unnecessary negative comment.

I thought about Kelli O'Hara, too, ljay889. But, she is returning to South Pacific in October, so I forgot about that one.

And Karen Ziemba's blandness has been nominated (AND WON, over Eartha Kitt no less) four times because the Tony's love that sort of thing.

Awarding weak performances in showy supporting roles.

Blandness is blandness.

Sorry but a Tony nomination doesn't mean that someone isn't bland, Kelli O'Hara is such a snooze-fest (save for her performance in PIAZZA which I'm rather fond of), the mention of her name makes alone makes me yawn. Not to mention the fact that she looks very young, younger than Hannah Waddingham or any of the actresses suggested on here. If she were to sing "losing my timing this late in my career" I think I'd just start laughing uncontrollably...well, it is a musical comedy after all, so why not?

isn't Kelli O'Hara older than Laura Benanti?

[and I happen to enjoy Karen Ziemba. I don't find her bland at all! I think she's quirky.]

I don't understand this whole "Kelli O'Hara is bland" thing. Every time I've seen her on stage, she's been wonderful. Beautiful voice, beautiful face, and great presence on stage. She isn't right for Desiree, though. Not one bit. O'Hara will be a perfect Sally Durant in about 20 years, though.

I wish Nunn wasn't so set on this whole "age appropriate" thing because I would love to see Louise Pitre play Desiree.

If the producers were smart, they'd pursue Kate Winslet for Desiree.

She's a viable name, lives in New York, is perfect for the role in this production, has a free schedule for the first time in years, and said publicly after the Oscars this year that theater (specifically a musical) is what she wants to try next.

I can't even imagine what a potentially stunning performance she could produce.

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

I said earlier that Laura Linney and Toni Collette are the ones I'd like to see the most. Add Kate Winslet to that list. How brilliant would she be? Somethingwicked, you're right, it's probably something we can't even imagine.

^Me too. With confirmation on Irena's Vow closing, they should be announcing this taking the Kerr soon. Hopefully news of casting will come soon too. I'm anxious to find out!

Expect an official confirmation of the show going into The Kerr the week after IRENA'S VOW closes at the end of the month.

Usually, that's what's customary.

Louise Pitre as Desiree would be divine. I still think Kristin Chenoweth should be considered if they are going for a younger actress. How about Judy Kuhn or Melissa Errico? Sherie Rene Scott would even be great.

I think Chenoweth is too much of a kewpie doll for this role.

Not sure if it's been said but the gentleman at the Kerr box office told me today that NIGHT MUSIC will in fact be there and starting previews in October.

I just didn't want to search 8 pages to see if it had been posted. :)

Who knows how credible the source is, but a post on ATC today claims that Victoria Clark is being considered for Desiree.

I'm hesitant to put any stock in this myself. Clark will turn 50 this year and I've heard repeatedly that Nunn is being strict with the age requirements he laid out initially, which would put her at least a decade over what they claim to be looking for.

Am I the only one who sees Clark more ideally suited to Charlotte anyway?

We'll see.

I love Victoria Clark, but that doesn't make much sense. She's too old for Nunn's production, but I still would not mind if she is cast. After seeing her Sally Durant, I am sure she could play Desiree (though they are very different characters).
