I know MEl Brooks did everything wrong when bringing in YF .High ticket prices, lots of hype,no group sales, pissed off Paul LIBBEN,didnt post numbers etc . So i though he was treated accordingly . Honestly what did Dolly do to deserve such a a cold shoulder. There was next to no hype on the show ,She seemed to follow the correct protocol !! So why the red headed step child treatment ?? And please don't say the show sucks .Ive done 100s of broadway shows that werent as good as this ,some even won a tony Titanic (no offence meant it was a decent show with a great score ) And please know i dont care about spelling and grammar ,SO all you english freaks who have nothing better to offer know i dont care !!

Oh, for crap's sake!

Cheyenne Jackson tickled me. AFTER ordering SoMMS a drink but NOT tickling him, and hanging out with Girly in his dressing room (where he DIDN'T tickle her) but BEFORE we got married. To others. And then he tweeted Boobs. He also tweeted he's good friends with some chick on "The Voice" who just happens to be good friends with Tink's ex. And I'm still married. Oh, and this just in: "Pettiness, spite, malice ....Such ugly emotions... So sad." - After Eight, talking about MEEEEEEEE!!! I'm so honored! :-)

I totally agree. I don't understand why people are attacking Dolly and 9 to 5. I loved the show and Dolly has done nothing but be supportive of it. I feel like 9 to 5 is run by a bunch of really nice people who just want theatre goers to have a good time. during previews they were offering some really great discounts on tickets, and they have general rush and ticket prices in general are pretty good.

I was sitting in the box office for rush a few weeks ago and someone came in to buy a regular ticket and the guy in the box office asked her if she wanted to use the discount code, which she didn't even know existed. Everyone at 9 to 5 is very nice.

and besides that I personally feel like any 9 to 5 "hype" was met by a great show. I was also very excited for Young Frankenstein and I liked that show a lot but the whole ticket pricing thing was upsetting.

and yeah I know, I know I'm practically on a crusade for 9 to 5 but I feel someone needs to be standing up for this show

Maybe people just didn't like 9 to 5. Is that at all possible?

Theatre lovers are a bunch of brutal, back-stabbing, immature, ass-holes. The reason why Dolly is getting this treatment is because she's someone famous and new to the theatre community.

There was next to no hype on the show

I remember TONS of hype ever since it was announced the musical was being produced especially since Dolly was writing the score. Did it receive as much hype as Billy Elliot? No, because Billy Elliot was already an established award-winning hit in London and 9 to 5 hadn't yet gained a reputation other than the tryout which was mixed-to-positive.

Dolly was nominated for her score, which was her contribution to the show. Not sure how that is interpreted as getting the "cold shoulder". She's not the producer or director and she didn't write the book. She's a high-profile celebrity who starred in the original film, but her direct involvement with the musical stops at the score. The media is trying to somehow rest the entire production on her shoulders, but only because her name gets attention.

Young Frankenstein (Brooks' fifth Broadway outing) was written, composed and produced by Mel Brooks as was The Producers. This is Dolly's first experience with Broadway. It's not a fair comparison.

The reason why Dolly is getting this treatment is because she's someone famous and new to the theatre community.

Yeah, it sucks when a celebrity gets a Tony nomination for their score. Otherwise, I see Dolly being treated like every other Broadway composer except perhaps Sondheim, who could write a dirge using only one note of the scale and most of the musical theatre elite would writhe in ecstasy.

Mel Versus Dolly?

Neither.

Perhaps, just perhaps, people didn't like the show. You know there are other opinions other than your own, and you can't just call people who disagree with you "a bunch of brutal, back-stabbing, immature, ass-holes".

BroadwayRocks2, what the hell would you know about vocabulary? The horrible world of closet queens and purportedly talented people called theatre which you denounce and claim to deplore was founded on the use of language, not its abuse.

What's with the bashing of Sondheim (who I would not claim to be sainted), as soon as someone who knows three or four chords gets a bit of flack? Grow up.

Shirley is my press agent. LOVE HER! She's getting a Tony this year! Well deserved, too.

And that ought to answer one of your questions, BR2. re: Mel VS Dolly

Pal JOey (very original name) YOu sound jeoulous not only hundreds of shows over the last 30 years but i have worked in EVERY legit theater on Broadway too !! And Dont call me SHirley !!LOL My main question wasnt why dont people like the show 9 to 5 honestly could care less what people think of the show cuz stay or go i still work . The point of my original questions was what did DOLLY do to get the ill reception she has gotten thats all .Basically did i miss something ?? Mel made some arrogant mistakes! WHat did DOlly do ?

Again, maybe it has nothing to do with anything except the fact people didn't like the show.

OK so then people who don't like the show have posted very nasty things about her, and if that is how you posters work then you shouldnt take stuff so personal and post nasty things about people .You should stick to remarks about the SHOW !!!Im trying to speak slow for you !!!

Why don't you ask the people making all these nasty remarks about Dolly? The Mel vs Dolly argument makes no sense. People are posting all sorts of nasty things about Constantine and Rock of Ages who haven't even seen the show, but maybe I'm the one who must be missing something because I don't see this "ill reception" Dolly has received unless you count a Tony nomination. If she doesn't want that sort of reception, hell, I'll take it!

But no, your original post did not specifically explain that you were addressing only snarky board members who made cracks about Dolly because they didn't like the show. I was wondering myself who these mysterious people were giving Dolly the cold shoulder and red-headed stepchild treatment. I must not have read that thread. And I still don't get the Mel Brooks analogy, which is completely unrelated and not comparable.

I haven't seen 9 to 5 yet, so I can't comment on how good it was/ if it deserved to be snubbed.
However, I do think Dolly has been really supportive of Broadway and used her celebrity to bring a lot of people to theater, which I think is really great.

I might be in the minority, but I still love Mel Brooks lol, despite the YF situations. The Producers is one of my all time favorites. I'm hoping to see 9 to 5 soon, so I can make a fair assessment of it, though I like what I've seen so far.

I don't understand what ANY of this has to do with Dolly. If anyone was wanting to punish Dolly, she wouldn't be nominated for a Tony. I think she's been more than gracious, too.

That being said, 9 to 5 was a "bubble" show as far as being nominated for Best Musical. They were LUCKY to get Choreography nod (IMHO). Cramming all the girls in Best Actress was NEVER going to play out well for 9 to 5. I had fun at the show, but knew it didn't deserve many nominations. I was SHOCKED when it got so many Drama Desk nominations and felt that the Tony's were more in line with what it deserved.

No drama . . . just MY opinion.

I haven't seen any Dolly bashing either. I have seen folks that have loved the show, but more that just thought it was "ok".

Just OK is NOT what I want out of a B'way show.

And you can NEVER post opinions and expect ONLY people that agree with you to respond. Especially here.

My analogy: the buzz coming from LA was incredibly positive for 9 to 5...but so was the buzz about Cry Baby!

Lets face it, Broadway and the Tony committee just hate, hate, HATE popular country music entertainers. Just look at the reception Roger Miller received.
