"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

While I consider Spring Awakening my 3rd favorite show of all time (next to only Spiderwoman and Sweeney) and will miss it dearly, Gypsy is the best show I ever have and quite possibly ever will see. It was a performance for the ages and am thrilled to have seen it and wish it could come back to entertain us again.

Actually, the more I think of Carol playing Tessie Tura, the more I like it. Imagine how she'd deliver such lines as "Tough titty," "Hey you with the neck," and "Where have you been playing? The Vatican?"!!!!!!
You're reminding me of people you hear at the movies asking questions every ten seconds, "Who is that? Why is that guy walking down the street? Who's that lady coming up to him? Uh-oh, why did that car go by? Why is it so dark in this theater?" - FindingNamo on strummergirl
"If artists were machines, then I'm just a different kind of machine...I'd probably be a toaster. Actually, I'd be a toaster oven because they're more versatile. And I like making grilled cheese" -Regina Spektor
"That's, like, twelve shows! ...Or seven." -Crazy SA Fangirl
"They say that just being relaxed is the most important thing [in acting]. I take that to another level, I think kinda like yawning and...like being partially asleep onstage is also good, but whatever." - Sherie Rene Scott
Yes, I miss Gypsy terribly. I'm glad I saw Spring once while it was open, but I'm not really saddened by its closing. Gypsy was the only closing I was genuinely sad about. I've been listening to the cast recording (and final show...), looking at pictures, and just remembering what an amazing final performance it was. No matter how many revivals come after it, nothing can top this cast and the performances they gave.
Wanda as Mazeppa, lmfao!!! I'd love to see that, I can hear her in my head now singing "Once I was a schlepa! Now I'm Ms. Mazeppa!"
