I'm still working on getting a Christmas gift for my Mom...she's been wanting to watch Jersey Boys for a while, but I know she hates the mezz, as do I, and the prices are a little bit out of my budget. Does anyone know how the current cast is? I've also been thinking about Gypsy or ITH. She's also interested in watching Gyspy, but I was thinking that she might maybe enjoy ITH more because it seems like a feel-good show. Also I have discount codes for both shows. So which do you think is more worth watching? Would Ugg boots or a cashmere sweater or a household appliance be an easier way to go (they're also on her list)?
All of these shows are amazing. I suggest Gypsy, she may like In The Heights if she wants a "feel good" musical but Gypsy is closing soon and it's a a must see. In The Heights is my favorite show but it will be running for a while.
Personally, I did not love Gypsy as much as most others. I thought it was just good....very good. But out of the three I would still reccomend it as it is closing VERY soon. ITH has some life in it...although thier numbers are begining to dwindle.
As for the other gifts....those are all things she can (and probably WILL) get for herself. Don't ever buy a mom an appliance. Ugh.
Additionally, the time you guys would spend together AT the show makes it even more important and special.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?

When my parents and sister visited this summer, we went as a family to Gypsy, then the next day I took my dad to see In The Heights (mom and sis went to Wicked) ~ I had seen it and asked him to trust me to pick a show for us rather than trying the Wicked lotery...all he knew about ITH was what he'd seen on the Tonys.
He liked Gypsy but he *LOVED* In The Heights.
FWIW.

"I have also met him in person, and I find him to be quite funny actually. Arrogant and often misinformed, but still funny."

I really loved Jersey Boys, but I'd say wait out and buy better tickets for the future. You can always go to the box office day of and they usually have premium orchestra seats available for regular price (but show up there a bit early before it opens).
For a present, I'd say Gypsy because the performances are stellar and the show is closing January 4th.

My favorite show is In the Heights but go see GYPSY. This production is amazing and you will never forget it. It is closing and you will be seeing one of the greatest performances of your life.
I agree. Both In the Heights and Gypsy are AMAZING. For a gift for your mom, I would say Gypsy. Seeing Patti as Rose was an experience that I will NEVER forget, and was life changing.
(That said, if you get the chance, see ITH as well! It has been added to my list of all time faves!)
"You see, I told you so! There's lots of things I know. 'Ponine, she knows her way around."
This is a really, really tough decision! Both Gypsy and ITH are AMAZING! But Gypsy is closing and it has Patti LuPone. Which is two reasons why you should chose it over ITH.
Jersey Boys on the other hand is a glorified concert, so don't even bother.
I'm with geekgirl06 100% !!! Both Gypsy and ITH are amazing, see Gypsy because it's closing and you'll never get another chance to see this INCREDIBLE cast, don't bother with Jersey Boys !!
