Yes, I know, off-topic, but it's a musical, so I thought i'd post it here.

Anyone seen this movie/musical? The trailer looks awesome! I just bought the soundtrack and it's interesting, I don't know if it's all that great yet, i'll have to give it a couple more listens. Anyhow, anyones thoughts on this?

i just saw this at the rehoboth beach (de) film festival last weekend ... it was really great -- came in second for best debut feature (and should have come in first, imho).

it was a fairly subversive riff on midsummer night's dream, and overall it worked. slightly off-beat, but still true to the arc of shakespeare's story ... just enough plot twists to make it fresh, largely conveyed in metered verse!

clever sets and costumes, and tons of eye candy ...

there were places where the script could have been tighter. ditto for the choreography, though somehow the lack of precision added to the charm.

watching it, i kept thinking how great this could be on a live stage. (not a thought i'm usually inclined to when watching a movie, believe me.)

i think there's a limited commercial release coming up ... definitely worth the effort to see this little gem.

I first heard of this movie about a year ago, and I've wanted to see it ever since. I saw the short film it's based on ("Fairies") a few years ago and enjoyed it, so I'm anxiously waiting for this expanded version to get a full release.

Two friends and I saw it at the Chicago Intl. Film Festival in October and we were bored. The trailer is impressive. That's what made us curious to see it.

The album's on iTunes and Amazon for digital download. Although the film is advertised as a musical there aren't that many songs really, just the ones from the trailer (which are lovely) and a couple of guitar-based numbers. It mostly goes to show that Shakespeare and gay musicals still go together, what with Bare and now this...

I'd be intrigued to see the film, but I think it's only playing at LGBT festivals. When it gets a DVD release, maybe.

This film is not only playing gay film fests. It has played about 70 festivals around the world (won 21 awards) - both mainstream and gay festivals.

Anyway - festival run mostly done - it is playing in 16 cities - now in SF and NYC. It actually was 5th per screen average in the country this week.

Caught this at the Cinema Village last week. I really enjoyed it. It was like High School Musical, except with the actual budget and talent level a real high school would have, not some overblown Disney fantasy.

I think the movie was great once it departed from the normal young boy coming out movie territory. After that it did some pretty fun things with mixing Shakespeare's plot with real life. I definitely think it's worth checking out.

This week the National Theatre shared a screening of their pansexual A Midsummer Night's Dream. Gwendoline Christie's queen makes Oliver Chris's king fall in love with Bottom the Weaver.

This inspired me to rewatch Were the World Mine. The film has a great premise (bullied teen uses Midsummer's potion on his tormentors) but sloppy execution. The screenplay gets lost in subplots and refuses to develop its leading couple. If I were adapting it for the stage I'd give the leading man a proper 11'o clock song to share what he's learned. And I'd give his cardboard boyfriend a personality. Were the stage rights mine.

I remember contacting them asking about stage rights and was told they’d already made a deal for them.... and nothing happened. Still frustrates me.
