Can anyone tell me, is the MEZZ section very steep? Last time I was in seats like those was three years ago at chicago, and luckily I had two friends with me holding my hand. I'm just too afraid of falling, and having to stand while others have to pass. Is it going up a hill up there?
With variety saying it hjas grossed $26 Million, that doesn't look too good for recouping by March 1, especially with Jan and Feb being such hard months. They have it capitalized at $9 Million.
All the same, it didn't a hell of a lot better than I thought it would!
I've never sat mezz at the St. James, but I would imagine it's as steep as any other theatre with the exception of wider ones like the Gershwin or the Hilton. So if that's a problem for you, sit last row mezz so you're not close to the edge.

-- "I love this production, it's damn near flawless and the best production of a musical on Broadway right now, with what is arguably the best performance on Broadway right now at its center."
I agree 100%!
I will miss this production, but I am so grateful to have seen it several times and for the stunning cast recording.
Gypsy has been my favorite! I love everything about this revival - the perfect cast, this is the first role I've seen of Patti LuPone on Broadway! I feel lucky to have gotten the chance to see it. I will really miss it.

thanks for responding. I'll look into going to the box office and asking to see if they have any seats in that section, aisle only. Only because I am going alone and I just feel too embarassed asking for help!
Just got nose bleed seats for the LAST Performance. Row A Balcony Since I already sat in the Front Row for Gypsy last weekend I think I can handle the distant space from Patti.

I went to the show on Tuesday, November 11. I bought a $32 balcony seat the day of the show. That night due to poor sales the balcony was actually closed off and they placed me in a seat in the mezz. Row K, which was a much higher price ticket. They did this to quite a few. Just saying....buy a balcony seat and hope for the same.
I bought a $32 balcony seat for the last show. I didn't want to risk rushing that day, so I got a cheap seat in advance. I hope it's not horrible like some people have said. I just want to be there, I don't care where. I've already seen the show a couple times, once even from the front row, so as long as I'm there on that day I'll be happy. I can imagine an hour long ovation after Rose's Turn, haha. It should be a great experience!
TheaterBaby ^^^ small world, I did....so what seat did you end up with?

At about 6:30 tonight I called Telecharge to get my ticket for March 1st, and was hoping to get an orchestra seat for the last performance. The announcement was made that the last day is March 1st this morning and by 6:30 the ENTIRE orchestra was already sold out! I'll be in Row K of the Mezzanine and feel lucky to have gotten that seat. So I just wanted to suggest that if anyone wants to go to the last performance, by all means stop reading this message board and call for your tickets right now. Literally "the best of times is now" - tomorrow may be too late to get into the last show.
HauntedBroadway2 - I believe that the orchestra seats were actually already sold out before it was officially announced. I bought my tickets 2 weeks ago and there weren't any house seats popping up on telechage. The "best available" were Row K in the mezz.
Thank God. I hope to get this production out of my head as soon as possible. Someone posted a message asking if anyone 'despised' Billy Elliot. Felt like despise was too strong a word for that particular show. But THIS version of Gypsy?....I can easily say that I despised it. Performances were so cartoonish and over the top. (Boyd Gaines is the exception) Also, I've noticed that most people have already decided how they feel about it before they even step inside the theater. I ran into an old friend standing in line for the show. He said "I'm so excited to see it. I know she's going to be fabulous!". I could tell by his excitement that it didn't matter what the show was like. He'd already made up his mind before seeing the show. Can't wait to see this close.
Sorry Bundy, I wasn't ignoring the question. lol I just haven't been on here all weekend. I ended up taking A-2 in the balcony. Still centered enough, and it's an aisle. I have long legs, so I though it was a better option for me. :)
And I agree with you, HauntedBroadway2. I've seen this production twice on Broadway and twice at City Center last year. I was not looking to spend a bundle, so I was content to get a balcony seat just to be in the theatre that day. Though I ended up paying full-price balcony. The guy at the box office would not take the discount I had because it expired that day. I thought that was sort of mean because most theatres will honor the discount on the day it is set to expire. Oh well.

Well just came back from the box office - I ended up getting a box seat. The guy at the window was very nice to me when i told him about my little issue with balance and being up so high, and actually told me that a lot of orchastra seats are being "held" and that they would be made available a few weeks before march 1 st, did anyone know this? He even told me to come back at that time for orch. seats for better seating.
However, I said that I might not get a chance to get them in time so I paid full price for box seats - can't complain since i took advantage of the discounts over these past months. I might just go see it one more time in jan or feb, but i'm thrilled i'll be there at this last performance!! Maybe get a few snap shots too!! Updated On: 11/17/08 at 06:32 PM
