So last year Grey Gardens announced its closing in the weeks after the tonys...what shows do you think will announce their closing by the end of the month, or will there be none.

P.S. I LOVE PATTI LUPONE!

IN THE HEIGHTS, of course.

13 nominations and only 3 awards? Clearly they were NOT the "Spring Awakening" of the Tonys this year. Such a shame. Heh. re: What Show Will Announce Its Closing?

I disagree. At least they won Best Book. It won't help but it won't hurt them.

XANADU, I'm sad to say, will probably be the first to close. re: What Show Will Announce Its Closing?

PS has a smaller budget.

Passing Strange
Cry-Baby
A Catered Affair
Xanadu (though I have a feeling this will stick around for a while)

Cry Baby...followed by Passing Strange, which has been doing consistenly worse than Xanadu. I mean, when's it's 50% vs 60%, it's kind of an apples and oranges thing, but I hope last night's performance sells some tickets.

"I'm hoping A Catered Affair will close by the end of next month"

What a profound statement to make.

Why would ACA close? I thought the grosses had been pretty good as of recent.

Sadly, I don't think PS will last -- it wasn't my favorite show by any stretch, but it was well-performed and true to its own style of music. Cry-Baby and A Catered Affair probably won't be around for too long, I feel.

IMO, Xanadu's performance on the broadcast will give the box office some kind of lift. Everyone I talked to at work today was commenting on it and Gypsy (favorably). Gypsy's going to run of its own accord, but I'm hoping that Xanadu's will give the (well-deserved) push it needs. Cheyenne, you did some great stuff last night!!!!

Actually, Passing Strange has been doing better than Xanadu for the past month or so. Percentage of the potential audience has nothing to do with number of tickets or actual sales. 50% of the Passing Strange house is more people than 60% of the Xanadu house. The only apples/oranges issue would be the weekly nut each show has to cover with relation to their weekly earnings. I'm just hoping the Tony broadcast could inject some life into the Xanadu weekly earnings.

When people say they WANT the show to close I think they mean if one show had to close they would choose that one because they liked it the least.

Probably CRY-BABY and then PASSING STRANGE...I hope (especially after that really mediocre at best performance on the Tonys) A CATERED AFFAIR will last a while.

"I'm hoping A Catered Affair will close by the end of next month. I have tickets to see it and want to see Gypsy instead."

So go buy a ticket to see Gypsy if you want to see it. What's wrong with seeing both shows? There's no reason to bash A Catered Affair just because you regret buying a ticket for it. Sell it to someone else, or just suck it up and go see it.

Point taken Matt...I tend to look at the percentages over the money not thinking of operating budgets, theatre size and that stuff.

Which in turn makes "Cry Baby" most likely the first to close.

Passing Strange, unless it gets a ticket sales bump in the next couple weeks, will probably close at the end of the summer.

A Catered Affair... probably a few more months.

And lay off. The original poster just meant that it would be convenient for him/her if it closed, because it would allow them to get a refund and buy a ticket to a show they would rather see. No ill intent was present.

Jeez, everyone's so testy around here today!
