Mentioned here a few months back, the new Barry Manilow musical has now been confirmed. 'Cant Smile Without You!' has just confirmed its opening dates and auditions are due in 3 weeks. The show contains all of Barry Manilows hits woven around a slight story of a touring band. Ouch! Bill Kenwright is opening it The Chruchill Theatre in Bromley for 2 weeks at the end of August. Its original opening was due at The Liverpool Empire in July but that fell through but its rumored Mr Kenright is still hoping it may open there first!
All together now.....'well you know i cant smile without you , i......'

A young actress with Noel coward after a dreadful opening night performance said to him 'Well, i knew my lines backwards this morning!'' Noels fast reply was ''Yes dear, and thats exactly how you said them tonight'!'

Bromley is near to where I live, think I take a trip to the travel agents and sort something out, for those two weeks, to guarentee no chance of contamination.

Didn't the old crooner (not you wicked) do a musical called Cocabana and if he did how well did it do, was it any good.

I will probably be the only one but I actually really enjoyed Copacabana for what is was, entertaining fluff. I saw it on its first UK tour. It had the air of a 1940s movie musical about it. good set and costumes, good songs, nothing too taxing but fun.

I did have the 'making of' video up until a year or so ago. I think it did a year or so in London but I maybe wrong.

re: Barry Bonanza

'Copacabana' was a geat nights entertainment that i saw a few times with the different casts. Very well produced at the Prince Of Wales after try outs in Edinbrugh and Manchester, and it ran for 16 months.
It was adapted from a dreadful TV movie thats available on DVD.
(Phantom -you were doing sooooo well)

I love Manilow as a performer and as a songwriter. But another cheap fix juke-box musical is the last thing we need - they deprive the West End of the chance of seeing some of the high class musicals yet to make it across from Broadway as well as stifling the hopes of new writers in the UK from getting original musicals staged.

That said, I would love to see Manilow's ill-fated ORIGINAL musical "Harmony" make it to the stage in the UK.
