I don't get the point of your post, but if you are trying to start a debate about which is better...

Artistically, Lion King is superior to Beauty and the Beast (although Beauty had gorgeous costumes); however, Beauty was absolutely magical and a fun, feel-good time at the theater.

In my opinion Beauty and the Beast, if you want a great spectacle that doesn't have that great of a book or music see Lion King but if you want a show with great music and a good book and even some spectacle, Beauty

This one's tough, they're both amazing to watch.

I'll go with Beauty and the Beast though.

I'm not as familiar with BATB as I am with Lion King, but I'd say Lion King. Other than the brilliant direction, Lion King was pretty awful.

I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.

Lion King, easily. And how anybody could say its music is "bad" is beyond me. I get goosebumps thinking about it.
Beauty and the Beast was like a theme park show, and anyone who says it wasn't is a liar.

why must we give Disney magic a hard time? Both shows were great!!! What if you were a 10 year old kid seeing a bway show for the first time, would it matter?

I liked both, but to me, "The Lion King" was more magical. B&B was like the movie come to life. It was so by the book, and even the character dialogue was the same. Granted, it could be for TLK, too, but I don't have the script memorized [when I was a kid, before I knew what a musical was, I tape-recorded the audio from the B&B movie, took a notebook, and scripted out all Belle's lines and songs and the cue lines right before hers, had a prop box, and would BE Belle because 1) She had brown hair like me, and 2) She was a reader, too. I have those lines MEMORIZED, and they didn't change in the musical.]

Perhaps I was also jaded when I saw the musical because I'd seen the 30-min version at MGM a few times.

I did enjoy it at the time, and thought it was beautiful and it was my first live musical [as in, not a school production, but something I paid good money for] that I saw [albeit on tour, but they're just as good].

But when I saw TLK, I got the chills. I was swept away. It's so much harder to create animals and it was done so well. "The Circle of Life" is still a favorite production number of mine because it's so realistic and awful (as in full of awe, not as in the negative meaning). Plus, I loved that they incorporated music from a "Rhythm of the Pridelands" CD I once had, and every song felt right. There's nothing I skip, as there is for B&B.

...Ironically, some of my fave songs weren't in either movie. "Home," "If I Can't Love Her," "Endless Night," "Shadowland."

Also, I think TLK has much stronger, more somber music. For example, nothing chills me in B&B the way, say, "Shadowland" does. B&B is lighter, happier, more magical. TLK is grittier and more real. It's very hard to compare the two because, though they're Disney, they're not the same genre, imo, and it's like apples and oranges. Both shows are good vehicles for what they do. To me, TLK is a stronger piece due to my personal tastes.

The Lion King bored me to tears while Beauty and the Beast has a wonderful score and a strong story. The musical actually develops the characters further while Lion King is extended with a lot of pointless filler. Definately Beauty!

"In theater, the process of it is the experience. Everyone goes through the process, and everyone has the experience together. It doesn't last - only in people's memories and in their hearts. That's the beauty and sadness of it. But that's life - beauty and the sadness. And that is why theater is life." - Sherie Rene Scott

Lion King! But as Disney musicals go, my personal favorite is AIDA. That was amazing.

Beauty and the Beast! It's more magical and has a better book an better music than TLK.
