Has anyone seen the Irish Rep's current revival of Take Me Along? I'd love to hear some thoughts on it as it's something I'm thinking of seeing at the end of the month.
I'm sorry, I haven't, but I do know of the musical itself...as I played Muriel when i was 13 or 14...YEARS ago.
It is a really silly and futile musical. The opening song is about a fire engine. Really. Even then I thought the whole show was pretty stupid.
It might be a wonderful production, but the material is horrid, IMO.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
Definitely go see it. There are some wonderful performances and it is well directed. Highlights are Anastasia Barzee as Bell, and William Parry as the father. It's a good production of a sweet show, leaves you smiling.
I love Barzee and have only seen this show in community theatre. Charlotte Moore usually does a good job programming there...did she direct too? their AFTER THE BALL, for a dated period piece, was great...I THINK that's the one that combines WINDERMERE'S FAN and a Noel Coward score, anyway...
Wish I could get there. They use a challenging space very well usually.
exactly! thank you guys for your insight. i'm a huge fan of 50s musicals so i was thinking of seeing it for shear nostalgia purposes. your words may have inspired me to catch it when i'm in the City at the end of the month!
