Where was the scene "Who Will Buy?" shot? I love the location, and want some pictures of it, but I don't know how to look for it!!! Many thanks in advance!

I don't beleive any of the film was done on location. It was all built in studio.

I've seen that street in many movies set in London. It's probably on the Pinewood Studios lot.

According to The Worldwide Guide to Movie Locations (http://www.movielocations.com/movies/o/oliver.html),

"The ‘London’ streets – yes, even the steam railway – were built on soundstages at Shepperton Studios, Shepperton in Middlesex. Despite what you may read, the crescent used for ‘Who Will Buy?’ can't be found in London, nor is it the Royal Crescent, Bath. It was built from scratch, from designs by by Production Designer John Box, on the Shepperton backlot."

Besides the Royal Crescent in Bath, Bloomsbury in London looks somewhat like the set location.

It is a set and it must still be standing because it was used again a few years ago for a Jane Austin movie which I caught a glimpse of last week.

I WAS WRONG!!!!

It DOES exist. As I was typing the above, I was thinking "that doesn't make any sense. I've SEEN that setting somewhere.

It IS the Royal Circle, but not at Bath. It's the one in Cheltenham.

No. Again wrong.

I watched the footage. It IS a set, in slightly forced perspective.

It's BASED on the Royal Court in Cheltenham.

But it's clearly backlot stuff.

WHAT A GIANT SET.

Although it would appear in this case that the street is a set, there are a great many similar crescents and circles around the UK. They are usually found in eighteenth century Georgian spa towns such as Bath, Buxton, and Harrogate but there are also good examples in Edinburgh and London as well. Many are now cluttered up with street signs, modern lighting columns and cars ofcourse, so if want good photographs you need to be there early on a Summer morning!

They built an entire outdoor set for "Who Will Buy," that copied many of those similar crescent street complexes.

There is a vintage "making-of" for Oliver! that discusses the building of it. I don't know where it was constructed. Somewhere outside of London.

Then no wonder that number goes on for an eternity. They needed to get their money's worth. re: 'Oliver!' movie question...

I love the song, but I don't care for it in the movie.

JulianHookBucks, the washerwomen on the second floor exit through doors that are barely above their heads. The second floors are a few feet shorter than real life. The THIRD floors appear to be about five feet high. That's okay if Bob Hoskins is living there, but otherwise, it would be "Inside John Malkovitch" time. It reminded me of Main Street in Disneyland.
