Jay Leno is a homophobe.#1
Posted: 2/15/08 at 11:54pm
I never watch "The Tonight Show." I only have it on tonight because I was flipping channels and saw that Kristin Chenoweth is on tonight. Jay has made three homophobic jokes between the monologue and a question and answer segment with the audience.

Ugh.

Just because he cracks a few jokes doesn't make him a homophobe.

Plus, he has this guy on his show. Or had, I haven't watched it in a while.

re: Jay Leno is a homophobe.

That's "Ross the Intern", a laugh out loud gay guy. If he was such a homophobe, he wouldn't have him in the show.

I can say with all honesty that I have never in my life voluntarily watched Leno. And judging the material I've seen during all the times I've involuntarily watched Leno, I couldn't be prouder of that.

And yet I'd pay to see your reaction to all of those things, Namo.
"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I can't stand watching Jay Leno. All of his jokes seem to be at the expense of someone else. He mocks everyone - not just gays, and it just isn't funny to me. I remember watching Johnny Carson and his jokes were always made at his own expense - never towards others.

The last time I watched Jay Leno, he was subbing for Johnny Carson. I didn't like him back them, and haven't watched him since.

Not. Interested.

We have NOBODY like Johnny Carson now.

To call them all "pale imitations" is even an insult to the man.

More like "mutant talk show hosts." That seems more fitting.

I watched Leno once. He was interviewing Keri Russell. The creep spent the whole interview focusing on the fact that Keri once told a magazine how she lost her virginity. Keri was visibly annoyed, and finally asked Leno a personal question (can't remember what it was) and he recoiled like a snake. Never wanted to watch him again. With that business suit on he just looks like the token office a-hole.

The first one was scripted in the monologue; the second was off-the-cuff during the question-and-answer and was about "queens" in West Hollywood. The third was directed at a young man who asked if Jay needed anymore interns. Jay basically said he wouldn't hire him because of the effeminate stance the young man took when he asked the question.

I think Jay Leno is funny. Not his interviews, his monologues and bits like reading the headlines. He makes me laugh out loud.

I don't think Letterman is the least bit funny. Nothing he's said made me laugh.

So go throw produce at me! (Namo).

By the way, what is the story behind Jay Leno? Patton Oswalt once said what happened to him was "the greatest tragedy in all of stand-up" or some such thing. Even Bill Hicks agreed that he once was funny.

So what happened? Was he a really dirty stand-up at one point and was neutered to death by NBC or something? What's the deal?

Doing stand up is one thing. Doing a talk/variety show 5 days a week takes a lot out of you.

I read he was not thrilled with being pushed out @ NBC. Wonder if he would consider doing a show on Fox or another independent network.

Time will tell. I watch either Leno or Letterman depending on who the guests are. It is a shame though that long ago they cut it from 90 minutes to 1 hour.

Steve Allen was the pioneer . Many of Lettermans stunts are out of the Steve Allen playbook

Just because Jay Leno put Ross (the gay intern) in front of the camera, doesn't mean he ISN'T a homophobe, it just proves he's desperate to get laughs at anyone’s expense.

I don't know if Jay Leno is a homophobe, but I do notice that standup comics make fun of everyone-all aspects of life are covered-weight issues, race issues, sex, politics, etc. I don't know how you would decide what they were phobic about.

I prefer Craig Ferguson.

I don't watch Leno enough to have a well supported opinion. From what I've seen, he's like every late night host--trying to be funny instead of having a real conversation with the guest. It drives me nuts. Why can't it be a real interview that's amusing? It has to be the host making sure that everyone remembers that he's funny. Ferguson does it a little better, but Conan, Dave, and Leno are unbearable to me, and I only watch if there's someone I adore.

The host trying to be funny at the expense of the interview is as annoying as Charlie Rose interrupting his guests or telling them what they feel.

Oh, BTW-I don't as a rule, watch either Leno nor Letterman. I have in the past, and I occasionally might if there's a good guest.

Why anyone would watch Leno instead of Letterman is beyond me.
