Just got this in the mail, and...I Love It! The Elphaba is superb and has a much smoother sound than Menzel (who I also enjoy). They are singing to the OBC Orchestra as far as I can tell, but the energy and intensity rivals that of the original disc. It was worth the 40 bucks, with nice packaging and a superb cast (and killer chorus). Updated On: 2/9/08 at 02:25 PM
I couldn't agree more! Willemijn Verkaik and Lucy Scherer are amazing. I wish that I could just fly to Stuttgart and see this production tonight! As the Germans would say: Es ist sehr wunderbar!

Strange enough even though they do sing to the prerecorded Broadway orchestra, some of the songs appear to me to be slower on this recording. No idea why.
I agree about W. Verkijk's smooth voice. She doesn't seem to torture her voice like Idina at times seems to have to do. But one thing always troubling me when I listen to German cast recordings: there is a strong tendency of the actors developing foreign accents (mostly American accent) while singing and talking even though they're not foreign at all. And here it goes again. I wonder who makes them do that...
"I love acting. It is so much more real than life." Oscar Wilde "After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music." Aldous Huxley
No it isn't on itunes, and wouldn't expect it to be.
This is a German Release, mainly intended to sell well in Germany. So you aren't ever going to see it in America, where the Broadway Recording continues to sell well. Putting the German recording on the same shelf, especially since the artwork looks a lot "newer" than the Broadway, it might confuse the average joe. Non-English cast recordings are pricey but some are well worth having, this one included.
Dress Circle charge more than I paid through 'Sound of Music' Dress Circle is $42 and then shipping from England. I paid about $28 through where I get all my European cast recordings, Sound of Music, in Essen. You still pay shipping, but at least for German recordings the actual CD is cheaper.....and it is a wonderful cast recording.
Ive just been given the CD and these two girls are simply stunning, as an earlier poster mentioned they have much smoother voices. Def worth a listen.

Another option for buying German cast recordings that ought to be mentioned is www.musicalshop.de. This one plus www.soundofmusic.de and www.amazon.de are the most likely to have the items in question.
I now know its the Broadway track but its still wonderful to hear these 2 German girls.
