Anyone else think they look like a TV Guide variety show ad from 1975?

It's showing up as a banner on BWW.

But here's a small image off the 'Net.

Oh, Phyllis. So, you have no idea what big band music is, or the Spanish Inquisition or Sputnik, because they were all "before your time?" How simple your tiny world must be. re: The 'Applause' poster/banner ads

Totally, nmartin.

I'm hoping when it's bigger it looks a little less like Princess Diana guest-starring on "Donnie & Marie," and a little more like Christine Ebersole doing a musical in NY.

Thats not the show's poster

Thats just Saggyboobs McGee who controls the "applause" sign at the Late Show.

Which is a lot.

I love how Christine Ebersole, from that ad at least, will be carrying around her Grey Gardens Tony during every performance from now on.

Concept is good but the execution, not good. Still it is better than what they have for NO, NO, NANETTE.

...

Actually I think Applause opens at a Tony Awards ceremony. That could explain why she is carrying one.

...

As for the ad... I "get" it, but what I thought was ugly in the 70's isn't any better today.

It's like Vanna White won a Tony and then decided to return to Wheel of Fortune the next day to continue letter-flipping.

(Yes, I know she doesn't flip letters anymore. I'm old-school for an eighteen-year-old.)

I agree, Brian. When I first saw it... I couldn't see the title, because I had scrolled too far down the page... and thought it was a new Princess Di Bio-sical.
