The 2007 Tony Award winner for Best Musical, Spring Awakening, has recouped its initial $6 million capitalization.
Variety reports that the Duncan Sheik-Steven Sater musical's recoupment was helped by a strong summer that followed its win of eight Tony Awards this past June. Producer Ira Pittelman told the industry paper that the musical currently has an advance between $3.5 and $4 million.
As previously reported, a national tour of the rock musical is scheduled to begin in September 2008 in San Francisco. A London production, Variety reports, may open in late fall of 2008. International productions in Japan, Korea, Germany, Austria and the Netherlands are also in development. SPRING AWAKENING Recoups on Broadway
"Winning a Tony this year is like winning Best Attendance in third grade: no one will care but the winner and their mom."

"I have also met him in person, and I find him to be quite funny actually. Arrogant and often misinformed, but still funny."
