I know rush questions come up all the time (esp for Spring Awakening), but I'm flying in this Thursday so I wanted to be as up to date as possible. I'm going up to see my gf who's in a dance program and we've decided to see these two shows.
My plan was, since on Friday my gf has class, I'd go to SA for evening rush tickets since GG (as I read) only gives out one ticket per costumer while SA gives two.
If I student rush SA for a Friday night performance what time should I arrive at the theatre before it opens? Or will there surely be enough evening tickets that I can wait till the afternoon to visit the box office?
On Saturday, if I didn't get tickets the night before for SA I'm planning to go to the O'Neil box office in the morning to get tickets for either showing and then hike it over to the Kerr and hope there are some tickets left for GG. And whatever show we haven't seen by that night we will rush on Sunday.
So which is wiser, going to the SA rush or GG rush first? Does one theatre's box office open earlier? Are one show's student rush tickets easier to obtain?
Thanks in advance :)
You're reminding me of people you hear at the movies asking questions every ten seconds, "Who is that? Why is that guy walking down the street? Who's that lady coming up to him? Uh-oh, why did that car go by? Why is it so dark in this theater?" - FindingNamo on strummergirl

Grey Gardens doesn't offer Student Rush anymore. Read on here that they weren't but somebody said they still were so I tried today & the guy said they aren't offering student rush anymore but you can get balcony tickets for 10$ more. I sat Balcony at todays matinee and it wasn't horrible. It was kinda bad, but it wasn't horrible.
SPRING AWAKENING: On a Saturday, I went at noon and got the last student rush ticket. But that was two weeks ago. It could be better or worse. I know people line up at 8am.
GREY GARDENS: If you get to the Kerr before noon, you should be fine. However, their starting to limit the # of student rush tickets in order to sell the orchestra seats for higher prices.
I got there at 11am yesterday and they had one left.
I went today and waited until 3pm on the head and said "You can't sell me a student rush ticket? Wouldn't you want the $26 for the seat as opposed to $0?" but I got roped into Standing Room for $36.
More than I wanted to spend, but the audience was electric and a fab performance today.

Not sure if this matters to you, but if you go to SA on Friday, it'll be Krysta Rodriguez's last day. She'll be playing Anna, while Phoebe Strole is Wendla and Frances Mercanti-Anthony is the Adult Women.
Well Mr. Finn, since you were referring to Spring Awakening and not Grey Gardens you should know Spring Awakening is at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre while Grey Gardens is playing at the Kerr. And your info is still incorrect because no way you show up for Spring Awakening just when the box office opens and get student rush or even standing room, there will already be a huge line by that point.
I got there at 11am yesterday and they had one left.
Where was the seat located?

So is it definite that GREY GARDENS isn't doing rush anymore? How much is the cheapest ticket? I'm thinking of flying to NYC to see the last GYPSY performance and I was considering going to GREY GARDENS' last.

Balcony is $36.50 but it can only be purchased at the box office. Rear Mezzanine is $56.50 and available online.

has it been on TKTS at all? I really would like to see it once more before I go but I'm not sitting in the balcony or paying almost forty bucks to stand.

Yes, its on TKTS for $56.50, so the same price as the Mezz tickets.
I say do standing room, its not terrible although a bit overpriced.
I wouldn't say that the student rush is gone as I went on Saturday and was told there was one left.
