I think ANYONE CAN WHISTLE will only be revived in concerts. It is definitely the kind of show that should go into Encores! with an all-star cast.
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
The Wedding Singer - I don't see why anyone would want to revive it Dirty Rotten Scoundrels - not that I didn't like the show, I just don't see it ever being revived on Broadway Legally Blonde Phantom of The Opera - If it ever closes, I think that'll be it for this show
"You drank a charm to kill John Proctor's wife! You drank a charm to kill Goody Proctor!" - Betty Parris to Abigail Williams in Arthur Miller's The Crucible
I hope Miss Siagon isn't revived. After the Les Mis revival, which continues to sell out despite bad reviews and the fact it's totally unnessecary, CamMack is probably getting ideas...
Cosette: Roses are red.
Marius: Violets are blue.
Eponine: You're so in love!
Marius: And so not with you.
I strongly disagree with istillbelieve and basically this thread
I just saw Les Miz for the first time, I never had the chance to see it before and I absolutely loved it. Just want to say that Megan McGinnis (or however it is spelled)was simply heartbreaking.
Anyway my point is I love revivals because they give me, and countless others, the chance to see shows that we didn't have the opportunity to catch. I would love for them to revive Miss Saigon eventually, and I would love for all shows to be revived for short runs at least so I could see ones that I never got to witness onstage.
And I am all for completely reworking shows that didn't succeed the first time around or returning exact copies of originals that were great successes, just as long as they don't run forever.
Lestat Dance of the Vampires Rent (already dated) Hair Baby Coco The Wedding Singer Cats (if there is a god, it will never return) Got Tu Go Disco

"Passions" is uncancelled! See NBC.com for more info.
Most of the ones I listed (I forget who asked), have had revivals in the works for years and have yet to turn up, most of them are pretty expensive shows, and there isn't really a strong performer(s) for them.

I bet you didn't know (actually, I don't think anyone on here knows this fact) that the revival was the first and only time I've seen Les Mis. I love the score of Miss Saigon, but I was too young to see it the original time around. Yet, I still maintain my view that the revival was unnessecary and embarassing to us Les Mis fans, and will go down in history as one of the shallowest, money-making theatrical decisions of all time.
Yes, I enjoyed seeing the revival and yes, for my own selfish purposes I'm glad there was one. But do I think a revival of a long-running show that had only closed three years previously was a good idea? Hell, no. Would I WANT to see Miss Saigon on Broadway again? Yes, of course, if you couldn't tell from my screenname. Do I think it SHOULD be revived? No, I don't. And that's what this thread is about. What shouldn't be revived, not what we want to be revived.

They could revive Jerome Robbin's Broadway and Fosse and Dancin' and call it...
JEROME ROBBIN'S FOSSE DANCIN' ON BROADWAY!
that'll show 'em
"Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that love actually is all around."
I bet after the movie for Aida comes out, they will try again with a new re-written book..and maybe some new songs and some old ones cut..I just don't want the show to never return.. Updated On: 7/13/07 at 01:23 AM
i dunno... nostalgic, maybe, but cute? Is "Sing, Sing, Sing" cute? All in the staging, I think.
Here's a musical that probably won't be revived, Rogers & Hart's HIGHER AND HIGHER (it came to mind listening to Julie Andrews singing "It Never Entered My Mind").
Looked it up, and there's a great anecdote attributed to Hart:
"HIGHER AND HIGHER opened at the Shubert in New York on Thursday, April 4, 1940. Backstage Josh Logan sensed the audience's reaction was less than enthusiastic, although everyone seemed to love the performing seal. After the show, as the audience crowded the center aisle to leave, there was a small but perfect silence. Then into that silence, Logan said, an enthusiastic voice rang out. "Darleeng, zat was zee muss vonderful f_ck in zee world!" Many people turned to see who was talking. It was the young French wife of an American lawyer. She was using the French word for "seal" which is "phoque". Her husband tried to keep her quiet, but she protested, "I deed not say zee show was good-I shuzz say zee f_ck was good-zee f_ck, only zee f_ck, and oh, how I loved zat f_ck" By this time the whole aisle was laughing. I stood in my box saying to myself, "At last, a funny scene but it's not onstage" Next morning the notices were as gruesome as I knew they would be. The show ran as long as the advance sale lasted, a few months."
