Nudity on stage

In germany there is nearly no play without nudity.
I think nudity is okay, as far as there is a dramatical reason for it or it carries a relevant meaning.
Good actors know that it is the character who is nude on stage and whom people look at. Actors who mix up there own identity with their stage character shouldn`t be actors.
Nevertheless nudity shouldn't end in itself.

I'm the german Ethel Merman, don't you know... ;-)

Jere and Marin laugh about the nudity in Passion on the delightful commentary track on the DVD--I can't remember quite what they said but I doubt there was frontal--they laugh about having to wear one of those funny skin coloured things movie actors where (men anyway) so you don't "fall out". But depending on the night and where you sat you would see quite a bit of frontal and sometimes some behind (and like I said there were two cuts filmed for the TV/DVD version). I remember the deal when the show first opened--reading the reviews and net opinions--cuz I was 12 going on 13 and it seemed a huge deal to me lol.

(whatever became of Jere?)

as for Frontrow's comment I think one reason male nudity is a bigger deal in film than (arguably) in movies is, cliche or not, the fact that male sexuality--and homosexuality-iis a much more accepted and comfortable part of Broadway theatre than it is of Hollywood.

There's no doubt that with movies female nudity is MUCH more accepted--and I believe the MPASS is still much much mroe strict with male nudity even if it slowly is becoming more allowed (though it's kinda changing now that men are getting more and more happily objectified in the mainstream as their female counterparts--even down to basics like look at how many famous male actors would have six packs in the 70s compared to now)

I think it can take you out of the experience or moment though unless done carefully (and sometimes I'm sure this is the very point)--and maybe more so in theatre than on film--since film is a much more literal medium anyway and less suggestive. I remember seeing a very good Fringe touring production/adaptation of Master and Mhargarita (sp?) when I was 16 or so with the girl I was dating at the time (I know, I know). There was a scene where the main male character in a hurry has to change quickly in front of the audience while being chase and while I didn't midn the sight, it did seem to go on to ridiculous lengths that he woudl run around the stage completely nude (I guess Russians at the4 time didn't wear underwear) -- especially since we were in a tiny theatre, front row literally about 4 feet from him, and there was no warning of "mature themes" or nudity to make us expect anything. You can bet, as 16 year olds, that was really the main thing we talked about, and remembered of the production in the end.

I wish I saw Stanley Tucci naked in Frankie and Johnny. God, I love that man. He is sooo hot.

I saw BENT with Richard Gere on Broadway. I have never seen so many gay men in one theatre at a time!

i have long motioned that there should be nudity during popular in wicked.. especially involving kate reinders

but all kidding aside i feel that as long as the nudity is logical i have no problem with it. Nudity thrown in just to get people to stay (dracula) is a bit much

I remember there was a nude scene in The Grapes of Wrath with Terry Kinney. It caused so much commotion during the Wednesday matinees (b/c of the school groups) that it was cut just for Wednesday matinees (the nudity was cut not the scene)
