I think Dreamgirls, Louise Pitre, and Patti LuPone for Sweeny were big robs given to Nine, Sutton Foster, and LaChanze.

Cheyenne Jackson tickled me. AFTER ordering SoMMS a drink but NOT tickling him, and hanging out with Girly in his dressing room (where he DIDN'T tickle her) but BEFORE we got married. To others. And then he tweeted Boobs. He also tweeted he's good friends with some chick on "The Voice" who just happens to be good friends with Tink's ex. And I'm still married. Oh, and this just in: "Pettiness, spite, malice ....Such ugly emotions... So sad." - After Eight, talking about MEEEEEEEE!!! I'm so honored! :-)

Not that the others *didn't* deserve Tonys so much, but I'm still very bitter on behalf of the 'Sweeney Todd' revival. It's not like LaChanze plays the tuba, and I bet Manoel Felciano wouldn't have attempted a dialogue with an unborn baby. Plus... 'The Pajama Game'? *weeps*
On a less fangirlish note, I would quite like it if the 'Spamalot' creative team would be so kind as to send their Best Musical award on to the 'Light In The Piazza' creative team. I'm even bitterer about that one. ^_^

Posted: 3/11/07 at 4:11pmThe fact that Idina Menzel won a Tony over Tonya Pinkins for "Caroline, or Change" is a downright travesty. I also think Elisabeth Withers-Mendes warranted the Featured Actress award last year over Beth Leavel (although I thought Beth was wonderful.)
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.

I liked her, but I was a bigger fan of Louise Pitre from Mamma Mia.
Oh, and Piazza for musical and, even though Piazza had great sets, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels for sets.

Nine completely deserved it over Dreamgirls, IMO.
Tonya Pinkins has to be the biggest upset I can recall.
And come on - Spamalot over Piazza?
But when you consider that so many voters are the people who book tours I guess we should expect commerce to trump art every time.
But still...Spamalot? Over Piazza?

IMO, Spamalot shouldn't have won the Tony for Best Musical. All three of the other musicals deserved it more than Spam.

Posted: 3/11/07 at 4:56pmI agree with Tazber about Nine-completely deserving of its win. I also do think that Piazza deserved its set design. David Rockwell was in no way "robbed" of a Tony for DRS. Also, add me to the list of people who say that Light in the Piazza was robbed of Best Musical.

I'll get shot for this, but I still claim Idina Menzel deserved her Tony over Tonya Pinkins.
To me the upset was Hugh Jackman over John Tartaglia, at least, that year.
"Spelling Bee," and "Ragtime" both deserved the Tony in their repsective years.

Spelling bee was amazing, but not as worthy as Piazza.
Ragtime was a major rob, IMO.
I thought Hugh was amazing, as I had the chance to see him live. John was awesome, but not robbed.

Okay, don't kill me, but both Christian Hoff and John Lloyd Young.
Jim Dale should have won for "Threepenny" and anyone else (Michael Cerveris especially) for Best Actor.
I mean... how hard is it to be a "Jersey Boy"?
