I was just watching the movie and I was Curious why isn't Angel in drag the very first time we see him in the show. I haven't seen the live version yet, will this Sat yay, but I am assuming he/she is not in drag at the point to. The part that makes me wonder is because the rest of the movie, after he meets collins he is in drag?
I'm not sure there is any 'correct' answer to this one, however I've always taken it as Angel is more a guy who likes to dress up in drag rather than wear drag all the time, so he changes for the protest/life support because it's christmas eve (so wears the christmas outfit) and then for new years also.
'It was six hours! I don't even like to have sex or eat bacon for six hours!'
'You are faboulous creatures each and every one'
it may also be a way to make it CRYSTAL CLEAR to the audience that Angel is a boy
I know people are stupid, I never experienced this during the show, but during the movie, people audibly GASPED when Angel took off the wig, apparently they hadn't figured out that Angel was Angel
But anyway I think the simplest explanation is that drag queens do not appear in drag 24/7. Dressing in drag for certain reasons and occasions does not entirely define who the person is. If they constantly dressed as women then they would be trans.
Also, that may be all the clothes that he owned at that point. He got the 1000 dollars later, and then bought the Santa outfit I'm assuming. Updated On: 4/6/06 at 08:31 AM
I agree mostly with zzannahk, that makes sense. But I also like to think that Collins' love is really what brought Angel to realize he could be himself, and embrace who he is. So before hand, maybe he just wasn't in drag as much as he was after he met Collins. Just a theory :)
My friend saw Rent and thought drag-Angel and non-drag-angel were two different people. Of course he also thought Mark and Roger were lovers until Act 2, and assumed each character had AIDS.
Yeah.
