I love how the article on Playbill.com was placed way down on the page, as if they were hoping no one would notice.

I hate to be such a shark, but does anyone know the REAL reason why she dropped out?

EXACTLY the reasons stated. The rehearsal period conflicts with shooting the final season of The Sopranos.

And, BTW, there are at least two other threads about this topic on the board...

Well, why would you automatically assume that there was some ulterior motive for her dropping out?

EDIT--

Oops...I didn't see the other thread because they refer to her as "Carmella Soprano" instead of her real name in the title... Updated On: 12/9/05 at 08:18 PM

you need to chill, melissa errico fan. take a deep breath, and step away from the computer.

melissa errico fan did nothing wrong.
she/he simply stated there were already two threads on the topic
and she/he only just questioned the poster because the poster was insinuiating there was some "ulterior motive"....

I'm pretty sure MEF IS Edie Falco's mom. re: Edie Falco drops out of 'Threepenny Opera' revival

Why are you going after melissa errico fan? How about the person who started the thread projecting ulterior motives onto Falco in the first place?

Playbill.com does not place headlines hoping people won't see them. If they didn't want a headline seen, they wouldn't post it. As the day goes on and more news happens, obviously, earlier headlines fall below the later ones. Just like how it happens here at BWW.

I blame MEF for all things involving Edie Falco. re: Edie Falco drops out of 'Threepenny Opera' revival

OK, OK, it looks like it really IS because of scheduling conflicts. But especially since she seemed like such a strange choice for the role (not being known for her singing), you have to admit that it seemed a little odd. She wouldn't be the first television actor to drop out of a Broadway musical role during rehearsals (i.e. Jenna Elfman) for "artistic reasons."

Well, I don't see why everyone is jumping on Baritone. I mean, it IS suspect. She didn't look at her calendar?

It is not suspect. Do you people know what the business of acting consists of. You probably don't know whether there was a change in shooting schedule after her commitment or not. Maybe HBO wouldn't let her go. Maybe Roundabout couldn't work with her. Maybe her agent got mixed up and is generally foolish. Who cares? Why is it suddenly suspect that she dropped out. It happens ALL the time, this just happened to be printed...and no one says she dropped out because of artistic reasons. As a matter of fact they all say reasons are unknown.

Maybe she had 2 nd thoughts about subjecting herself to the critics again after Night Mother. She may have thought who needs the aggravation

She was godawful in 'NIGHT, MOTHER. Don't think she can blame the critics for her performance.

That was a one-time thing in which she was poorly miscast. In the past, she has been a real critics' darling. Her reviews for Frankie and Johnny... and Side Man were glowing.

To imply that Falco is not capable of playing Jenny (not a role that requires a great singer, but a great actor who can sing) because she is a "TV actor" is ridiculous. Yes, she is now know primarily for her TV work, but she started out on stage.
Why do people hold it against stage actors who find success on TV? She is brilliant on the Sopranos and to suggest that TV acting is "below" stage acting on the talent meter is just stupidity.

MEF, do you really think she was "miscast" in 'Night Mother? I know people didn't care for her interpretation of the role, but I think she could be very good in that part. So "misdirected" or "Off the mark", perhaps, but not "Miscast."

PEACE.

Wow, I guess people around here really love Edie Falco...

I'm NOT saying "she's a TV actor therefore she cannot sing," I'm just saying that no one's heard her sing yet, and given the recent trend of TV/film actors in Broadway musicals, my first impulse is to be suspicious.

But as I said, in this case, it seems that it really was a scheduling conflict and I was mistaken. Maybe she would have been brilliant as Jenny. I guess we'll never know.

I wonder if they have found her replacement yet. The show already has some big names in it. I think that it will be good. Sad that Edie will not be in it. I can't wait to see Ana and Nellie in it. As well as the rest of the cast. The entire thing looks amazing.
