What is everyone's Favorite Song in Stephen Sondheim's Follies? I'm directing a small production for my Directed Studies on Directing Musicals at my College, and was curious what people's favorite song from it was. Mine is I'm Still Here because the song tells the story about life and struggle and then even though through all the tough times, they are still there going strong.

I love the whole score, but if I had to choose just one I would have to go with In Buddy's Eyes. It has the emotional depth and seemingly sweet lyric that belies Sally's pain. It always gets me.

PEACE.

favorite song in the show: Losing My Mind - this is probably my all-time favorite song, Broadway or not, in the entire world - it is so emotional and hits me in the right spot every time I hear it

favorite cut song: Little White House or All Things Bright & Beautiful - i like these and can't really understand why they were cut

the whole score though is FAB-U-LOUS! i dont think i can recall a more intelligent, emotionally complex piece of theatre than Follies.

Don't f*ck with me fellas. This ain't my first time at the rodeo.

"The girls Upstairs"
"Buddy's Eyes"
"I'm Still Here"
"Too Many Mornings"

The entire score is wonderful! I sometimes skip over Buddy's numbers, but otherwise - I listen to entire thing.

Buddy's Blues cracks me up and makes me sad simultaneously. *drools over Sondheim's talent*

Oh, the cut songs! I do love 'All Things Bright and Beautiful' and also 'The Road You Didn't Take' -- so lovely.

Sigh. It's an embarrassment of riches, isn't it?

I love the whole thing, but since they have yet to be mentioned:
"Broadway Baby"
"Ah, But Underneath"- I adore how the whole "follies" section develops the characters.

and for cut song "The Ballad of Lucy Jessie"

I stand corrected, you are as vapid as they say.

Wasn't that one actually in it, penguin? I thought Uptown/Downtown was the cut song. I could totally be wrong, though.

Uptown/Downtown was replaced with the Ballad of Lucy and Jessy, I think Ah But Underneath was written for the London Production--Diana Rigg sings it on the cast album. There are a lot of amazing songs that were cut. My favorite song used to be Losing My Mind, but then I heard Barbara Cook do In Buddy's Eyes and it edged in as my favorite.

Yes, we do need a third vampire musical.--Little Sally, Gypsy of the Year 2005.

Ah, But Underneath & A Country House - because they remind of many evenings watching Diana Rigg's marvelous performance.

Of the original score: Too Many Mornings and Losing My Mind

Of the cut: All Things Bright and Beautiful & Who Could Be Blue? / Little White House

Oh my God, tell me more! I adore Diana Rigg on that CD. She is beyond fabulous. She'll always be Phyllis to me (mostly because I heard her Phyllis first), but just...ah. I can't even express it. Divine.

"The Ballad of Lucy and Jessie" was not in the production I saw. "Ah but Underneath" was.
I was counting them from that production. re: Favorite Song in Follies

Hard to choose, but it's a toss up between, "Too Many Mornings", and "I'm Still Here".

Although the entire score is amazing

Could this be the greatest score of all time? SO MANY great songs that every post I read my mind changed!

I think I'm going to go with "Losing My Mind" -- or "Too Many Mornings"..I'll stop there.

At least cut songs is easy for me -- "Can That Boy Foxtrot" - that song makes me laugh every time I hear it. "One more fault in him - he can't dance." I love it!

"Too Many Mornings" and "The Girls Upstairs" - both brilliantly detailed, yet totally acessible - with "tunes you can hum".
