Tonight was my second time seeing this film but the first with a regular kind of audience. The movie is glorious. Watch for lots of theater people cameos ( Deborah Monk. Brent Barret, Thoma Meehan... etc..) The end credits were in tonight ( they weren't last time) and they were a hoot. Do not leave till the last credit rolls. Minor cuts were here and there. Betrayed was edited down a little more .All in all.. BIG FAT HIT.

Dame, Is there a shot toward the end of the movie (during the Prisoners of Love sequence) that shows the original prisoners, who performed the show in jail, in the audience for the opening night of the show on Broadway? They may be shackeled together and giving a standing ovation. Just curious if this shot made it into the movie.

I cannot wait for this film. I'am going after school on the day it comes out and then again on the weekend. Also, if anyone here has a myspace and is a producers fan, please join my Producers group at www.groups.myspace.com/BialystockandBloom.

There is no doubt in my mind that this film will be a huge hit. And I would also bet big that it will be a major Oscar contender for Best Picture as well as Nathan Lane winning Best Actor. The Academy loves Nathan Lane and any project he's involved in.

I'm excited about the movie, but I'm weary of Uma Thurman. I'm still not convinced I'll like her as Ulla.

The Academy loves Nathan Lane and any project he's involved in? Then why hasn't he been nominated before?

So Dame your opinion of the show has changed? I thought you mentioned you were underwhelmed after the first viewing. And what about Uma.

I don't really care about King of Broadway. Or about Where Did We Go Right. But there's one thing I must know: is the challenge tap still there?

I am glad to hear the movie is really good. But like everyone else, how is Uma Thurman? I have heard mixed reviews on her and her singing ability? How is she over all?

Glad you enjoyed the movie, not once, but twice.

I thought Nathan Lane was nominated for "The Bird Cage"...hmmm. Nevermind.

I withdraw my statement.

I still think he'll get nominated for Producers.

Thanks for the review. Oscarwatch seems to only have negative reviews and many are saying it has no chance come Oscar time. Who knows what to believe. I think the critics will determine whether or not it will be award worthy, however audiences are a whole other matter.

Uma was fine. She pulled through. As for the poster who said I originally was underwhelemd.. I think you are refering to my Rent review.

That's interesting. There was just a very positive review of The Producers posted on Oscarwatch today. Most others there have also been positive. For some reason, BWWers - obviously very excited about the possibility of two Broadway-based musicals receiving Oscar nominations - are flooding Oscarwatch with inane, closed-minded comments about our 'hatred for musicals' or specific musicals on threads where that 'hatred' isn't really in evidence. I guess it's the nature of passionate theater people to take the negative to heart and see past the positive.

Have I been reading the same thread on Oscarwatch? Nobody has much positive to say from what I read. People seem more inclined to want rent to succeed. But they have been down on this movie since before anyone saw it, so who knows. Poland took it off his charts today, except for Uma, who dropped four spots which is not good. Some are even saying it wil not do well at the box office. Don't get me wrong I want his movie to be successfull it is just I just think there is a difference between whether the regular moviegoer will enjoy it versus theatre people or broadway fans.

I tell you.. I can only go by what I saw . I loved the film. And both audiences I saw it with.. the "industry" crowd and "civilian" crowd; seemed to enjoy themselves. The new day security guard in our offices also went last night. I asked him this morning what his thoughts were. He loved it but seemed a little embarrassed to say it. He said.." I didn't know it was a musical but yeah.. that was so funny."

One other thing I forgot to mention. For me ; the gay number was not as funny as it is on the stage. I think the scenes particular broad humor worked better live.

There's a thread on the Film and Discussion board (by kris, who writes for the site) acclaiming The Producers. Some later posts echo his sentiment. I'm no Producers zealot or a real fan but I think I have a good read on how people are reacting to it. Buzz leans more toward the positive side.

If you think Oscarwatch is some sort of pro-Rent forum, then you really haven't been following the threads closely! re: Dame's 'The Producers' film mini review. I've been considered the equivalent of this board's fanatical Rentheads just in my mild support for that film. There was a positive review of Rent posted there today, but the general sentiment on the film is that it is/will be so bad or mediocre that it isn't even worth discussing. I hate to say this - but unfortunately some Rentheads have joined the board and don't make contributions to the discussions worth a damn. It is really laughable to see them there trying to censor opinions on a board that was essentially created for quick, sharp judgment of films. As much as I've been anticipating the film, I now kind of want it to open and close as quickly as possible just so that I can be spared any more idiotic Oscarwatch posts from Rentheads arguing that because Cinderella Man, The Producers and The Family Stone are "bad" films, Rent must win the Best Picture Oscar.

Fortunately, The Producers fanbase isn't very intense. Discussions of that film have been fairly sedate on Oscarwatch, even as some people have expressed their dislike of the trailer and the film itself.

I agree. I have been reading the post about both films and they do seem down on musicals generally. No suprise there. There is a new positive review on goldderby for the Producers today as well. Like you say it is difficult to get an unbiased review of anything on that board, but they seem particularily down on Producers. I really want an actual critic to voice their opinion because it is difficult to filter through peoples opinions when they have already decided who they want in every Oscar catergory. I guess it will just be an uphill battle for The Producers, but it is not over yet.

Again; having already seen the film.. I think you are underestimating people. I'll bet it wont be such a hard climb for "The Producers". Alot of people are looking forward to a Mel Brooks film. I think it will do reasonably well. Also remember that Rent is about to open and Producers doesn't officially arrive till Christmas. The huppla and publicity machine have not even begun.
