I just bought tickets to see the national tour of Cats in February. I'm taking my four year old little brother, because Cats was my first show when I was four, and my brother is VERY well behaved. Anyways, has anyone seen this tour and if so, how is the cast?
The national tour was just here in DC a month or so ago. I did not go myself (really had no desire to) but the Wash. Post gave it a pretty good review, if I recall correctly.
Currently, we have Mamma Mia. I will refrain from comment on the *lovely* tour choices we have gotten this season (apart from TMM at wolf trap, which was not that bad, but not a *wow* experience).
"Why do you care what people might say? Why try to fit into their design?" (Side Show)
I saw the tour on November 1 when it was in Akron and I enjoyed it. It was my first time ever seeing the show. It was good, bit not my favorite. The cast was great, but then again, I have never seen any other casts. My favorites were Grizabella played by Anne Brummel (might have been her understudy) and Mr. Mistoffelees played by Shane Hall (man can he dance!). It is a non-equity tour, so everyone is not AMAZING, but it was enjoyable. I am hard to disappoint.
The national tour is wonderful. There has been some cast changes since I saw it (Karl Warden left for the Fosse World Tour!), but the people I did have the pleasure to see really gave it there all. Especially Mario Martinez as Mungojerrie!
I'll be seeing the tour this New Years, I will let you know how it was with the new cast members.

Sorry.... but did I hear FOSSE WORLD TOUR? Is there a World Tour for FOSSE? Gosh! There ae so many musical tours going on now! But is it goin to Hong Kong? Is any musicals touring to Hong Kong? There has not been musicals comin to Hong Kong for awhile! The last musical was Singin' In The Rain with Pia Morley and it's about 1-2 yrs ago! Sorry... it's quite out of the topic! CATS!!!! I hope I could see it! Every classmate here in York has seen it! (I live in Hong Kong and study in York, UK) My THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE the musical group!

the cast is horrible and cant come close to the original cast. they aren't even an official tour. the production was directed and choreographed by someone different
I am sorry.... but this is a FOSSE UK TOUR and is now with Ruthie Henshall! How I want to see it..... Isn't this Cats tour a Really Useful Group production? Why will the choreography be different? My HAIRPSRAY the musical group!

Well, CATS won't die because it keeps making money. It's not one of my favorite shows, but the current tour still seems to be entertaining the audiences that the show is bringin' in...
The tour is indeed Non-Equity, but it's basically got all the "reproduced" elements that the Fourth National Tour had, and they were Equity. The current designers have all been involved with CATS productions, and the director/choreagraphers (I think Richard Stafford and Suzanne V-somebody) were part of the NYC company.
CATS may be CATS, but this tour is pretty decent representation of the show.
And regarding FOSSE. The tour currently in the UK (featuring Claire Sweeney, Ruthie Henshall, among others) is the UK leg of the US Non-Equity tour, produced by NETworks. It's a very sharp tour. See www.fossethemusical.com for more info.
Is the site linked above for the world tour? If it is, Akron was on the schedule. BrdwyThtr, I would have loved to see the tour in the front row! I was in the balcony, but then I could see the lights that were strung up the walls.
