I agree 100 percent with the Rent touring cast. They are phenomenal. It makes me sad to see the current Broadway cast these days, I just don't get that spark of magic from them.

i like anthony rapp and all - but no way is he better than hunter foster (unless you are refferring to joey fatone - then i will say, "HELLZZZ yea you're right!")
I saw Chicago in... 98? In Vancouver and the tour had Charlotte D'Amboise and Brent Barrett who were much better than anyone in the Broadway version at the time IMHO--though I think both have now done it in NYC
i fully believe that the entire touring cast of rent should be moved to broadway immediately...if it means firing the b'way cast that may not be that bad of a thing
"Grease," the fourth revival of the season, is the worst show in the history of theater and represents an unparalleled assault on Western civilization and its values. - Michael Reidel
Just hope Dan and Andy will get some position on Broadway. Even if they just understudy for some time, it would be great, I'vwe heard such great things about them.
frankly i think ava could possibly make a good elphaba too

Yeah, I could see that. She can belt the motha out of her songs, although the latest reviews say she seems to be holding back a bit. She was fantastic when I saw her, and HOT to boot. (As a straight female, I gotta say I admired her...assets a lot!) I could see Ava, Andy and Dan being on the Broadway cast for sure. (Coincidentally, Drew, Matt and Andy's current contracts all end in March, so here's to hoping Andy takes over on Broadway in the spring! Here, here!...?)

One of the biggest downfalls of Broadway has been that the Tour has become somewhat of a stigma.
In days gone by, after a show premiered on Broadway, the whole cast/the leads would go on the road and perform it right across America.
How else do you think Ethel Merman became such a big name, throughout America, not just on Broadway? It's because she would tour, and people who couldn't get to see the Broadway show, still got their little piece of Broadway.
This is why Broadway Stardom is becoming a thing of the past. The show is the star now, not the star.
Tours vary. Over the years in Miami,I saw some excellent touring editions of "Crazy For You", "Annie", and "Guys and Dolls". Technical shortcuts necesssary in transporting a Broadway show or cheap producers can greatly diminish a road production. In a Miami edition of Chorus line, the great moment of the finale when the mirrors light up on "One" was replaced by a cloth drop. Last year in the "42nd St". tour the breathtaking lighted stairs in the finale were unlit, flattening that effect. The worst tour was "Miss Saigon. This show had a fat Kim, no Ho Chi Minh statue, and a movie of the helicopter. Bottom Line: Tours are uneven at best: the talent may be equal, but the production values are too often shortchanged. See it in New York.
"the score is the star, the stars are just wood" to quote Forbidden Broadway.
I was thrilled when I saw that Tonya Pinkins was touring. By doing so she may just be building herself a much bigger fan base than if she had performed it on Broadway for 1000 performances...
More performers should tour after playing the role on broadway, not the other way around...

Sometimes its better to build up your theater experience and first try touring and then go to broadway. Not sure if anyone else agrees, but thats just what I think.. :/
When I saw the Evita tour in detroit last month the whole cast was phenominal, there wasn't any flaws in it. And when I listen to the OBCR and compaired it to the tour, the tour was so much better. Kathy brought more life to Eva then Patti did.
I also saw the Rent tour (just this past Christmas Day) and thought they were amazing. Granted, it was my first time seeing the show and I only had the vocals on the OBCR to compare to. But it was such an amazing experience - one I won't be likely to forget anytime soon!
