I want to see Susan Egan in Cabaret, but I don't want to see Jon Secada. Does anyone know when he'll be leaving?

Don't not go see the show because of Jon Secada. He's not THAT bad.

Unless they bring in someone else he'll be there 'til the "closing" date. But I don't know why someone would only want to do a short stint in the last few weeks of the show's run. If his contract is up in October..he'll probably just ride it out 'til November 2nd. I haven't seen Mr. Secada, but from what I've heard many people wish they'd bring in a new emcee to close Cabaret.

I HATED Secada, but he has extended.... I don't think he'll extend again though so there is a good chance of seeing the GREAT Susan Egan and another person in mid-October.

I would love to see Cabaret one more time before it closes. However, right now, my last memory of Cabaret is with Raul as the emcee, final performance, New Year's Eve. GREAT memory! I am afraid to see it now with someone who is not wonderful and then be stuck with that as my final Cabaret experience. Maybe someone else will come in for the final weeks. I definitely cannot see it with Jon Secada.

I was jealous that my sister got to see Cabaret last week but she said I didn't miss a thing because Jon Secada was horrible. I'd really like to see Vance Avery or Michael O'Donnel as Emcee!! Michael O'Donnel was the first Emcee I saw and when he was in, it was his first performance and he was fantastic!!!

AH! You got to see Michael O?? I am extremely jealous of you right now...I had a paper due the next day, otherwise I would have dropped everything and dashed up to the city.

I think everyone who hasn't seen the show should go while they can. Just know that the Emcee, if it's Secada, could be better. That's all. But don't hold yourself back...the show as a whole is incredible.

Jo125-- I'd say hold onto that Raul memory if JS ends up being the closing Emcee.

Here's my thoughts on the matter of which Emcee will close the show (as of what's going on right now):

Jon Secada: very likely. He is only in till October so far, so who knows what'll happen. Alan Cumming: that's a hell of a long shot. I really doubt it, but miracles have happened before! Michael Hall: taping Six Feet Under around that time. Though I would love to see his interpretation now. Matt McGrath: Doubt it highly. He didn't extend his run at all (well it *was* the time of 9/11), and he was sick a lot during it. Raul Esparza: Already came back for a second run and is doing Taboo. John Stamos: They've asked him, but he's doing Nine. Norbert Butz (first tour): I always thought that would be a cool idea, but he's doing Wicked. Jon Peterson, Christopher Sloan, Robert Sella (the second and third tour Emcees and the temporary Emcee during Alan Cumming's few month break, respectively): No-names. Wouldn't happen.

So therefore, my choice would be......
Bring back Neil Patrick Harris.
He's a name, he loved doing the show, he had an awesome take on the role, and he just dropped out of the LA Babes in Arms. He extended in Cabaret a few times but left a little early b/c of an injury. I say bring him back if Cumming won't return. I think it would be a nice way to end the show.

However, my dream come true would be to have it extend till January like it originally was supposed to and have John Cameron Mitchell or Robert Downey Jr. in the role. Oh.Yeah.

Why wouldn't they bring in a no-name? Michael Mcarthy joined Les Miz early in May this year to play Javert. Though he's big in other countries, it's basically the first thing he did in the states. Wouldn't he qualify as a no-name? I think they might just bring in a no name...it's not out of the question.

No, it's not out of the question, I just really doubt it the way they've been stunt casting for the past couple years. Jon Peterson Was brought in as Stamos' understudy last summer and got to go on a few times- he also did Bryant Park. It was just kinda sad watching him pull down the pineapples time after time...he was just background the whole time he wasn't understudying, even though he headlined the tour for a year and got good reviews. I would personally be thrilled if they brought in an unknown, I just highly doubt it'll happen.

I am going to see it again I just dont know when. While Molly Ringwald amazed me as Sally, I REALLY want to see Susan Egan. Hopefully I will see John Secada's understudy who must be better than him from what I am hearing.

Milliegal, I would love to have seen Raul in Cabaret again also, however, on October 24, he will be starting performances in Taboo. So I will see Raul in that, and continue to hope they bring in someone good as the emcee to end the show.

Just have to add, Playbill.com announced Broadwayonbroadway schedule, and Jon Secada is performing "I Don't Care Much".
Why did Raul never perform this at past Broadwayonbroadway events? (Just lamenting, don't expect an answer--they have always let "Sally Bowles" perform in the past). Updated On: 9/2/03 at 06:37 PM
