Hello all!
Think back to the first time you held a glossy playbill in your hand and the first time the house lights went down and the overture played.
What was your first show? Did you love it or hate it?
For me, I went on a class trip to see Les Miserable. I didn't understand a thing about what was going on up on that stage but I knew I was hooked. It was mesmorizing to say the least. I remember that we were in the nosebleed section of the very very steep Imperial Theatre balcony and the ushers were selling plastic binoculars for five bucks!!! Yes, I bought one!
But I remember thinking, holy crap... this is the start of something for me. Since then, I've been fortunate enough to see a ton of shows and each time the house lights go down, there's a sense of excitment that takes over.
OK, that's a bit too warm and fuzzy for me, but what the hell!
I think that's the only reason that Les Miz has been a favorite of mine. Just because it was the first. Your thoughts?!

My first Broadway show was Beauty and the Beast. I was so amazed-because I was like 4 or 5. I remember when the Beast turned into a prince at the end, and when he turned into a beast at the beginning.

Billy:
Your first Broadway show was Beauty and the Beast??
And you were 4 or 5?? That would make you about 19-ish... if that's your headshot with your profile... you look way older!
(I know that's soooooo relevant to the topic... sorry!)

Phanotm. The summer after 5th grade. I wanted to see a show, so I took my dad's credit card and called telecharge!! Needless to say he was mad. Anyhow, I remember walking into the beautiful Majestic Theatre, and feeling a rush of happiness over me!!

Bily's pic is of gavin Creel -- who is 27. If he saw BATB at 4-5, he would have been born in 1991 at the earliest.

I was born in 83 -- making me 5 in 88. BATB opened in the mid 90s.

My first show was CATS. I was 14 and it was my first trip to NYC. I LOVED it! I had an aisle seat close to the front, so that "CATS" ran right by me. I remember thinking that it would be really funny to pull one of their tails...Don't worry, I didn't!

Billy, Add me to the list that thought it was your picture! LOL

Even the MILLIE commercials make me grate my teeth so I wouldn't know Gavin Creel.

My first Broadway show was Fosse....when I was 9...and erm- this is quite ironic...but I fell asleep. Hahaha- I was wide awake for the next one though- Cabaret...also age 9.

The first show I ever saw was Phantom...I'm not sure how old I was- maybe 6 or 7, it was the national tour- and I just remember going home running around the house singing "Angel of Music"

I was a Junior in high school, so I guess it was 1963. I saved my nickles and dimes to buy a ticket for HIGH SPIRITS starring Bea Lillie and Tammy Grimes. It played at the Alvin Theater (now the Neil Simon).

My first was Sunset Blvd. in 1997. I was 12, and I was enthralled the second the lights went down and the overture started. I just fell in love with the fact that everything was happening right in front of me at that moment, the talented actors, the score, the sets, everything. It started an obsession that continues nearly seven years later.

Rent, 1998. I hated it at the time. I finally went back to see it a few months ago after obsessing over the TTB cd and listening to some of Rent...yeah, I really like it now.
I think I was just bitter b/c I didn't get to choose the show even though it was *my* gift, and when I passed all the other shows that were open at that time...yeah, I was pissy.

I am 15 and plan on moving to NYC when I graduate HS. Although I want to work on Broadway (and am very motivated), I have never been to NYC. My first national tour broadway show was the 1st tour of Footloose (front row center!!). I was 12, I believe.
