"I don't really get the ending, all i can go with is when after several months,Judith saw Pat sang, and later she kissed him on the toilet, after that the story back to where Pat went down from the stage after he'd sung, and he went to the italian lady.I just don't get it,what Judith exatcly meant when he kissed Pat that she had seen, and did Pat end up together with The Italian Lady? Please help me,thank u very much!" Quote from someone on IMDB in reference to a movie he/she didn't understand. Such grammar!

Wow talk about different styles in shows. Something so deep and beautiful like Caroline to a show using Beach Boys Songs. What is Broadway turning into?

Lol, that will be a big culture shock for the theatre.

All they need to be able to do is pay the rent. Theater owners don't care about anything else.

How can something with the music of the Beach Boys replace something as beautiful as "Caroline or Change"??? This is very sad.

Hey, I like the Beach Boys. :) But this is just a silly jukebox musical, not even one with good ideas like Movin' Out or a star to gawk at like The Boy From Oz. No substance. Boo.

I am certainly spilling Salty Teardrops over this ridiculousness. Beach Boys over Caroline?!? I need to find a corner to cry in.

I'm gonna slam that theatre down on my heart. Slam it down til I drown the old cast out.

A lot of you posting on this thread are theatre snobs and just need to accept the fact that CAROLINE isn't popular and stop bitching every time a Sondheim show is replaced by a rocknroll show. It's not gonna change anytime soon. Keep eating your tea and crumpets and going to see CAROLINE OR CHANGE so you can feel better about yourselves and like your "sophisticated" theatre goers. I'll go to a pizza joint and see GOOD VIBRATIONS after a hard day and feel better better in general. Updated On: 8/24/04 at 03:44 PM

I'm not a theater snob. Theater snobs think that theater is an inherently superior art form. When I see something like Good Vibrations, I know that isn't true. Theater is as capable of producing drek as any other art form.

I like having fun at a show as much as the next girl, bronx. But I also like to see shows that respect me as an audience member and don't just throw a dinky plot around a bunch of songs that aren't even original, all the in the name of wringing as many tourist dollars out of a recognizable band name as possible.

As long as good shows, shows that dare to be different, shows that think, and shows that move me close in favor of thoughtless tourist traps, I will continue to mourn. And when I want to have fun at a show, I'll watch Avenue Q or Hairspray, shows that actually bother with craftsmanship.

And I've never had a crumpet in my life, so quit making assumptions about me before I really get angry. Updated On: 8/24/04 at 04:12 PM

I"m not exactly a theatre snob...just an audience member who likes shows that don't treat me like an idiot. I don't know if Good Vibrations will be that way, but I have some serious doubts...which is good...at least my expectations won't be high. Also, Caroline isn't Sondheim. I do enjoy tea a lot, but I don't even know what a crumpet is...I may have eatn one (Lord knows I've eaten a lot that I don't know what it was). And, if I wanna feel better, I'll view something like Caroline that fights for me and others to have less bad days and more good days.

But, I also agree that the idea of differentiating high art from entertainment art is a load of pork and kethcup. Just FYI.

Bronxbound... You are WAYYYYYYY off here.. It has nothing to do with being a "theater snob" or being "sophisticated". It has to do with Broadway needing more shows like "Caroline or Change" and less like "Good Vibrations". Do you have a problem with people being intelligent?

He or she is resentful of intellectualism, I think. To people like bronx, thought is mutually exclusive with entertainment. Which is their loss, not mine. I just don't want to have all my choices insulted as "snobby" when that has nothing to do with it.

I'm kind of tired of seeing all these new shows based on the music of some pop star. I want to see more shows with original music, not some no-plot show based around pop music. 'Good Vibrations' might turn out to be great. I don't particularly like the Beach Boys, but I'm going to see the show because it might actually be interesting.

I know Sondheim didn't do CAROLINE. WHat I meant was CAROLINE is a Sondheim-type show. It's a thinking show with weird music. I think these shows SHOULD have a place on Broadway as much as the MAMMA MIA!-type shows but it just isn't that way and everyone seems to be so surprised and annoyed when a new rock-review opens. I know a handful of very intelligent sophistocated people who are bored stiff watching CAROLINE-type shows even though they understand it as much as you do. Those I speak of want escape and to sit through some fluff and they're hard working lawyers and doctors who think hard enough at work. They work and get paid to think but not at the theatre. I get the idea that some of you think that enjoying CAROLINE-type shows is what makes you smart and making fun of all the fluff shows like MAMMA MIA! helps you look more sophisticated. Stop it.

And you would be wrong again in that assessment. It has nothing at all to do with "makes you smart" or "making fun of fluff". All shows serve their purpose. Just my opinion, but "C or C" is brilliant theater. Cant say that about "Mamma Mia" and really doubt you will be able to say that about "Good Virbrations"

What I admire most in theatre is creativity and originality. If I wanted to hear Billy Joel, ABBA, or the Beach boys, I'd put on one of their cd's. that's just my opinion. :)

There's just not room for brilliantcy on Broadway. lol But please stop acting snotty toward MAMMA MIA!, MOVIN' OUT, THE LION KING, and BOMBAY DREAMS. It does make you seem like a snob.

Beach Boys?! What is wrong with this world?

#23re: From 'Caroline Or Change' to......

I cannot believe this. I refuse to. NOOOOO! I don't think the fact that it's closing has set in yet. I don't think it ever will. This is horrible. Beach Boys? Talk about catering to the tourist trade... But i guess you gotta do what you gotta do to keep Broadway alive. Caroline needs to transfer somewhere off broadway. Maybe back to the Public. It would run longer there... as Testing so rightly put it (and all my Jewish ancesters did too) OY! DOUBLE OY! AND BIG OY!
