What is this show? It's always on Broadwayworld.com Radio, and I can't necessarily say that's a good thing. I'm not crazy about the songs that I've heard.
Elegies is a collection of songs for the deceased. All of the people mentioned in the songs are real people Bill Finn (the composer/lyricist) knew. "The Day The Earth Stopped Turning" was in fact a song Bill wrote to his mom. It recently closed with stars such as Carolee Carmello, Christian Borle, and Betty Buckley. It's directed mainly to celebrate life, rather than mourn for it.
The songs are possibly the most amazing songs I've heard in a long time. This is one of my all time fav CDs and is a song cycle by William Finn performed last year at Lincoln Center. The lyrics are sheer genius and the melodies blow me away - as does just about anything I've ever heard by William Finn. In my opinion, songwriting does not get any better than this.
