Hi,

I am getting ready for my next theater trip - 6 shows in 4 days - and stressed out about dining options. I am coming off major issues with stomach cancer and can not tolerate fried or fatty food at all. I would 100% end up back in the hospital.  Any good salad bars or other health options near the district? I am willing to venture away, and prefer to get away from Time Square,  as long as I have the time.

Any tips are greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi! I sincerely hope your health has improved and you are doing much better. A few healthy restaurants around Midtown that I've enjoyed are Little Beet, Green Symphony, Dig, and Dill & Parsley.

Enjoy New York City, it's always so lovely in the Spring.

There are some good options in/near Bryant Park - there’s a Sweetgreen or Chopt salad bars, a Le Pain Quotidien and a Whole Foods that has a salad bar and seating on the 2nd floor. Bryant Park Grill or Juniors should also be able to make a salad to your specifications.

There are several great salad bars around Times square: Fresh&Co, Just Salad, Chopt. I personally love Fresh&Co, they also have warm bowls, great sandwiches and unprocessed snacks and small bites, all healthy and full of flavor. As someone with very bad GI genetics , I feel for you. Get better.

It's been 4 or 5 years since I've last been there but the Food Emporium on 49th and 8th avenue is an upscale market and as I recall, in addition to healthy sandwiches, they had a pretty extensive salad bar and tables inside to eat. They might be worth checking out.

Thanks everyone!

It sounds like there will be plenty of choices. During my past trips, since I was on vacation, I ate whatever I wanted with no thought to making healthful choices, I remember seeing salad bard, but having names I can put into my maps app and see what is nearby will be super helpful.

Also there’s a bunch of good smoothie options - I like the Green Machine from an independent shop just west of the theater district called Fresh from Hell on 47th st between 8th and 9th avenues. http://www.freshfromhell.com/#home

There’s also Juice Generation & Juice Press that are reliable chains.

Wishing you good health & enjoy your trip!

They have tables to eat? Is that a new culinary trend?

Just want to add to the list DIG, Beatnic, and Cava for some healthy fast casual chains. Also, while Schnippers is known for their burgers and fries and such, they also have some excellent non-fried alternatives. I had a delicious veggie and goat cheese sandwich there today. Highly recommend. Enjoy your trip, and I'm wishing you the best with your health!
