I'm curious if anyone happens to know if the recently released Les Misérables live cast album is the same audio as heard on the recent blu-ray and streaming video release or if the CD is a recording of a different performance. Does anyone know?

I haven’t confirmed, but I am 95% sure it’s the same. The audio mixing sounds similar, and while I would’ve preferred a performance earlier in the run, I’m happy to have it.

VotePeron,

Just out of curiosity, why would you have preferred a recording earlier in the run? I’m not sure if the Thenardiers would have been so funny then with all of their side jokes and such.

By the way, while Michael Ball’s voice is rough around the edges, his Stars was not terrible, just not perfect.

I’m a massive fan of Carrie Hope Fletcher, and while I think she’s remarkable on the recording, I believe she was a little sick during the final performance. There’s some ~audios~ on YouTube from earlier in the run and her Dream was definitely a little stronger then.

I wish they had included the exit music as heard on the blu-ray but otherwise I'm really enjoying this cast and the recording. It just sounds like the audio has been cleaned up a bit compared to the blu-ray and it had me wondering if it was actually a completely different performance.

I agree with what you said about the sound quality. Regarding whether or not it was a different performance that was recorded for the album, I honestly wouldn’t be surprised to find out that they mixed and matched from different performances and just edited the whole thing together. I am not saying that they did that, but if they did to get the best performances possible I wouldn’t be shocked.

I noticed the same for Micheal Ball. There was a YouTube video of his Stars that was better earlier in the run. I thought Carrie was a little sick in this recording especially if you listen to her earlier performances. Still a great recording. Alfie still plays an angry ValJean but he sounds good on the recording. I prefer JOJ and I know it would be to costly but I would have loved to get a recording with his ValJean.
