The rise in attacks on the subways is concerning, and I am a born and bred New Yorker, and as a born and bred New Yorker, I know the drill - don't EVER stand near the edge of the platform while waiting for a train! And that's just because I grew up in the 1970s when the city was TRULY dangerous.

I'm glad that none of these incidents resulted in fatalities, but they are very concerning - especially if you're just going on about your business and some sh!t off his rocker muther fuuker is going to jump you and start slamming his fist into your face or start stabbing you. That sh!t right there is crazy...and then some people ask themselves why others are packing heat.

The whole point of this thread was the tourist's perspective.  If you are including me in "the handful of people",  I couldn't care less what the people who  do live in the city feel if it is safe or not safe about an increase in subway attacks.  It is how I feel.  I  already stated  that an increase in attacks would not be the only factor on deciding on a return visit.  Hell, when I visit, I normally walk back to my hotel, several blocks, at 4 am.  Most of you on this thread, who do live in the city, would probably say that is unsafe.  Each their own.

DeBlasio has defunded the police department

Jesus Fu*king Christ. The cluelessness and ignorance of some people is beyond mind boggling. Put DOWN the remote and turn off Fox News. Research what "defund" actually means in 2020.

Watch your ass. Everyone who lives in New York understands this. Especially if you are a woman. Be aware of your surroundings, of other people acting strangely and obviously don't ever stand right next the tracks. If you can't understand these things or lack common sense......don't come here. Also, if you are one of those people who rushes on a subway car before allowing people off first or stops in the middle of an intersection to look up....don't come here. Thanks so much.

I don't care about the tourist perspective, because, in this thread, what that means is a handful of people who do not live in the city telling people who *do* live in the city that it's not safe. And that's infuriating.

"DeBlasio has defunded the police department,"

LOL. How ignorant.

No surprise so many Americans got fooled by a reality TV show host con man.

“DeBlasio has defunded the police department.”

I needed a laugh today. Thank you for that, at least.

Two people were arrested for separate incidents and were mentally ill.

Jeff Bezos is soooooo lucky the Republicans, starting with Reagan, systematically dismantled mental health services in the United States! I mean, if such services had grown to meet the real world needs of the mentally ill, Roxy and yankeesfan might never have seen the realization of all of the base instincts of their party manifest in Trump and run the country into the ground!

1) " While while some organizations are indeed calling for the abolishment or dismantling of police altogether, "defunding the police" simply means reducing police department budgets and redistributing those funds towards essential social services that are often underfunded, such as housing, education, employment"

Exactly. Plenty of tourists are basically scared of the size of NYC and if they start reading headlines how crime has risen, they are not going to really care what some people on BWW who live in NYC thinks is safe.

Well maybe you should care about tourist perspective because they spend a lot of money in NYC which helps fund your city. The city to people like "Mr. Roxy" and "Artman" no longer appears to be safe and a place where they want to visit anymore and spend their money, it is their opinion. Nowhere in this thread did I read them telling you or anybody else that lived here you were wrong in believing the city was safe.

I am not going to get into specifics but I have experienced a person in my life having eating disorder which is a mental illness and they were able to get all the help they needed. Was it expensive, heck yes but care was readily available.

To set the record straight Emperor Cuomo emptied out all the mental health facilities dumping them unto city streets. Clueless DeBlassio like Nero fiddled while the city burned .He has To take honors as the worst mayor.in NYC history past present and yes future. Repeatedly promised to do something and shuffled papers and accomplished nothing.

Ronald Reagan destroyed the mental health infrastructure in the US. No Republican has EVER done a thing to improve it since.

What color is Trump's fiddle? It's a 9/11's worth of Covid deaths every day now. #NeverForget

I was going to post this earlier, but I didn't want to engage.  On November 23, NYC's Mayor stated he was "CONCERNED about the recent uptick in subway push attacks".  He further states  "that he understands the FEAR that NEW YORKERS may have in riding the subways".  It seems that these New Yorkers don't post on Broadwayworld.  In addition, I don't understand how some on here state that DeBlassio did not defund the NYC police department.  He took one billion from the police department's budget  and shifted  it to other agencies.  I have also read articles and watched videos where he, himself, used the word defunded.  So why the sarcastic posts?

I made a point of when I used articles about DeBlasio wanting to shift money from the NYPD that I used ones from the NY Times and NBC and not FOX or the NY Post -lol. Why the sarcastic posts? Very simple, they really dislike me because I will post and not agree with 100% of their views.

The Mayor of NY says he is concerned about the uptick and understands the fear NYC subway riders may have but all is safe according to BWW posters that live in NYC. Glad you decided to post this item.

Such a joy to read your posts as always -lol. See my post #33. Item #1 is definition I got online what the meaning of defund the police is so let me know if you agree. In that same post, I provide three links from articles that states DeBlasio plans to take money from the NYPD which fits the description of defund the police in item #1. I will note the links I provided are from the NY Times and NBC(NY) not FOX. In addition, see post from "Artman" (#39) where he states he has read and heard Deblasio use the term defund the police. Once again, you show how small minded you are and think that anybody does not agree with you politically just watches FOX or reads the NY Post.

You also said you don't care about tourist perspective of NYC safety and like I said to "Kad", maybe you should care. Tourists used to pump a lot of dollars into the NYC economy and the city will hurt big time without it. Your definition of safe is totally different than a tourists perception of safe.  Have a nice day.

Fox news is on life support and is now like CNN

We have lived in NYC all our lives. My wife will not take a bus or subway. She will not eat in a restaurant because Thanks to the media she is wary of eating out. If Co Vid ended tomorrow and we still went to Broadway we would go nowhere near the theater district as it is now like a war zone. If you think tourists are going to flock here again you are dreaming

Roxy you're like 105 years old and THIS is the warzone? You lived there in the 70s and 80s? Are you sure you're not gay because you're quite the pearl clutching drama queen.

As for whether DeBlasio defunded the NYPD:
https://www.cityandstateny.com/articles/politics/new-york-city/did-de-blasio-actually-defund-nypd.html

"Sounds like the mayor was getting a bit desperate to hit the magical $1 billion number.

It does seem that way. In fact, the number is such a stretch that New York City Council Speaker Corey Johnson refused to say the city had cut that much. He and other council leaders had agreed during negotiations to set $1 billion in cuts as the goal, but in his Tuesday press conference, Johnson said that he and the council had fallen short. And police reform activists who had pushed for the cuts seemed to be in universal agreement on that point."

Cupcake, remember when we exchanged pms like 7 years ago? I do. You stated you lived in Long Island. I will, once again, tell you: LONG ISLAND IS NOT NEW YORK CITY. THE FIVE BOUROUGHS OF NYC ARE MANHATTAN, BROOKLYN, QUEENS, STATEN ISLAND AND THE BRONX.

You also said you don't care about tourist perspective of NYC safety and like I said to "Kad", maybe you should care.

I stated who I don't want around NYC, but I will be more clear. I don't want the posters lying about NYC in this thread to come here. You don't belong here. All you do is complain and assume you know what it looks like right now. We don't want or need people like you vacationing here. We are not "lucky" you come here. We don't "owe" you a thank you. I hope that is more clear? You have a nice day.

Roxy very recently confirmed he did not live in NYC proper, on one of those now-deleted posts from that crazy conspiracy theorist who Roxy very happily supported.
