Either Helen or Meryl Streep would be perfect for Morrible.

Well they'd be great doing anything they do. For who they'd actually cast? Aim lower.

Any actress of a certain age would fit.
Liza, Bette, Oprah, Maggie Smith, Mirren, Streep, etc. etc.

My money is on Michelle Yeoh though.

Christine Baranski and Hugh Jackman would be great as Morrible and the Wizard.

If anyone could reprise their role from the original Broadway cast, could it be Academy Award-winner Joel Grey as the Wizard? That would also be a smart tactic, similar to Rita in the new WSS and even the idea of John Travolta (a movie musical favorite) in Hairspray. Or even Dick Van Dyke! Loved his cameo at the end of Mary Poppins Returns!

I'd rather Nathan Lane for the Wizard (he comes from Kansas by way of New Jersey), and Olivia Coleman for Morrible. These are both comedians of the first order and boy, will we need comedians to lighten the load of this film.

Harvey Fierstein who originated Edna on Broadway reprised her in Hairspray Live five years ago

Oh, yes, but I was referring to film adaptations.

While we’re throwing out casting ideas, my dream wizard would be Stanley Tucci.

Give me any of the three leading men of Only Murders in the Building: I said for years Steve Martin or Martin Short, but Nathan Lane’s arc on the show makes me think he might be the one to beat.

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/universals-wicked-movie-development-1235037181/

Universal’s adaptation of one of the biggest musicals of all time was set to begin shooting in March in Atlanta. But the production’s start has now been pushed to June, and it will relocate to the U.K., multiple sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

The delay, insiders say, will allow the filmmakers to get production efficiencies in-line, as Wicked will be the first production to shoot on stages at Universal’s recently built Sky Studios in Elstree. The project does not have an official green light and is technically still “in development,” although the Wicked film’s producers — Marc Platt, who also produced the stage iteration, and David Stone — and director Jon M. Chu have been told to proceed full steam ahead.

There goes Dove Cameron's availability. If her CW pilot goes to series, she won't be available.

I'm pretty sure if she were to get the role, her agents would get her out of the CW show, or CW could move the show to premiere in the Spring and they could still shoot it.  I wouldn't consider this a nail in the coffin if she were to be the top choice.  Many ways to make this work and more complicated scheduling has been done.

I want Brittney Johnson to be in the film
