Hey Guys:) Long Story short: I got a summer job offer-direct marketing / sales in USA (not sure which state). I'm from Eastern Europe and I'd like to ask how do you view those sellers before I agree to take up this job? Will you let them in the product they want to sell, even though they are not interested in? How on earth are you buying something from a peddler? The offer is from South Western advantage if it matters.

I have no idea why you joined a theatre message board for this question but ok...

It looks like you're selling "educational books, software, and website subscriptions door-to-door using direct selling methods" per their website. I would say that isn't the best thing to be doing during a pandemic. Most people in the US don't answer the door for strangers, especially given the current climate I would they would in the near future.

You're more than welcome to ask it here because this is the Off-Topic board. I just thought there might be a forum that is more closely related to your question than a Broadway message board.

I think I know what kind of direct sales work you'd have. Every year, one or two (different) eastern Europeans stop by my house to try to sell me some educational materials and children's books. If it makes a difference, the last one I met was from Estonia. If it's this company (which, based on the summary, it seems to be), I don't think it's a scam, or at least it didn't sound like one when I spoke with them.

Consider it an opportunity to speak with Americans, practice your sales skills, and maybe travel a little if time allows. Make sure you read the contract to make sure you're not liable for anything if you leave unexpectedly. Make sure you have enough money to buy a plane ticket home if necessary, and don't give anybody your passport, no matter what they say. Even though it's a con, they can't do something to you that you don't consent to in the contract if you're here legally and on the correct visa.
