Jordan Catalano said: "Well there’s already 4-6 shows that have announced beginning in March, none of them the long running “tourist” shows, which I’d expect to want to get back to business ASAP. So I’d imagine at least 10-12 shows trying to reopen on whatever the actual start date will be. After that, it will absolutely be staggered."

well, I remind you that (as you know) announcing and actually starting are not always the same thing. If an announced show looks at its advance on the day the big contracts have to be signed and a few big checks have to be written, and doesn't see a number with at least 7 figures, it can un-announce as quickly as it announced. I also think that the "tourist" shows are going to have the hardest time reopening. The idea that things are going to go back to before in short order is, in my view, a bad one.

I join SweetLips in counseling patience. I can't wait, however, to hear more about having sex with security guards.

We have absolute stupidity here in Victoria Australia where quarantine 'guests' in hotels went out shopping, had sex with security guards, visited others within the hotel and guards without any substantial specific training.

No matter what rules by well meaning officials are put in place it is the duty of the individual to protect each other.

This is a theatre board about a business, not any more special than other struggling businesses but they all interlock at some point to work as a whole.

One without the other is useless so once the little corner store, the coffee shop, drycleaner etc etc open their doors then gradual confidence builds until we start to hear live music flow down Broadway or out from any theatre world wide.

Don't predict, be patient and it WILL happen when it is MEANT to happen.

Love your 'don't predict' sentence.  Very Zen.  I agree, but would not have thought to phrase it quite so logically.

I do have a question.  I thought that Australia was doing great.  Is that no longer the case,or are you pointing to gaps that need to be closed insure that things do continue on a positive path?   Which leads me to...

i heard a great anecdote a couple of days ago from a friend whose son went to S. Korea since the Pandemic started, to be a best man in a wedding.  He knew in advance that when he arrived, he would be escorted to a hotel in what sounds like whatever suburbia may be in a densely populated country like Korea.  He was required to pay for the hotel for 14 days and was not allowed to leave his room.  (He thought there'd be opportunities to take walks outside in some designated area, but that was not the case).  Now, here's the best part.  When he looked out the window one day, he saw people picketing in front of the hotel.  They were picketing because they didn't like the fact that their neighborhood was being used as a quarantine location, for fear that the 'guests' would manage to get out, and potentially infect them.  That is why their stats are so good, despite having things like live theatre still operating.  We could learn, but we'd need anew administration and about a third of the country to be lobotomized.

Yes, January IS possible. There is ZERO point in stating that something 6 months away is completely out of the question. (And to be honest, I think that they should’ve even waited til later this summer or early-mid fall to make a final decision about extending that far when so much could change, but I will spare that rant). People can say that January is unlikely all they want, but until we get closer to the time, don’t say it’s not happening like that’s carved in stone. As far as going in February, I’d say there’s no harm in purchasing tickets, as shows are allowing that after 1/3. If (yes IF, DO NOT SAY DEFINITE) the shutdown gets extended yet again, you should be able to get an exchange/refund. There’s no harm in being optimistic.

Optimisim is one thing  fantasy quite another. Technically anything is possible- but some things are probable - this is not one.

Here is some vaccine research timeline- Polio- Salk worked incessantly for two-and-a-half yearsand even then there was a huge disaster w the the product from the Cutter labs. All five companies that produced the Salk vaccine in 1955—Eli-Lilley, Park-Davis, Wyeth, Pitman-Moore, and Cutter—had difficulty completely inactivating the polio virus.

Chicken Pox-VZV was isolated from vesicular fluid of both chickenpox and zoster lesions in cell culture by Thomas Weller in 1954. Subsequent laboratory studies of the virus led to the development of a live attenuated varicella vaccine in Japan in the 1970s. The vaccine was licensed for use in the United States in March 1995. The first vaccine to reduce the risk of herpes zoster was licensed in May 2006.

I'm very optimistic re a vaccine and the subsequent  return to a form of normalcy but with realistic time lines.

Jarethan you are almost correct, Australia has overall done a wonderful job of safeguarding all people. In Queensland [my State and a TOTALLY inappropriate name you must agree]. I shouldn't have to live under a name that gets people hysterical when asked where I live. I'm going to start yet another protest, be just a few pathetic old fags under a gum tree with a flag that says--Happyland. We call those trees 'widow makers' as the branches are always falling off and killing the poor buggers[male obviously] walking or swishing beneath.

We opened our borders this weekend and increased numbers to restaurants /bars and clubs and have only 1 remaining positive patient.

Side tracked, sorry. In Victoria, a very puritan state, where security staff are having sex with locked up 'foreigners'-yes, shocking !! When released or torn from the arms of a burly guard, they go to their housing commission flats[units] in 4 high rise buildings that have now gone into total lockdown[over 1000 residents] and over 100 have tested positive.

Moral of all that---celibacy and/or sex toys.
