A local theater is considering doing the Sondheim review Putting It Together and we're trying to decide between the '93 and '99 versions. Thoughts? Opinions? There are things I like better about each both song selection and structure wise. Would love to hear some of your thoughts. Thanks!

For me, the 1993 version has more of a "story". The second act has the whole games night piece to it. It also (at least to me) seems more independent that the later piece. 

The 1999 version seems to be "Phyllis and Ben" from Follies throw a party, and happen to stumble upon a younger couple that show up. The songs are more "complete", where in 1993 there are a few more instances of medleys and pieces of songs.

I think the biggest question to answer is do you have more of a Carol Burnett or more of a Julie Andrews.

The '99 version wasn't very good. I'd go with '93.
