I’m seeing this two weeks from today. Any recent viewings of the new anniversary tour by anyone on the forum? Last updates were almost two months ago in a thread titled Austin, TX. Right now the show is ending its Baltimore run today.

The guy who played Judas, James Delisco Beeks, has been pretty regularly posting reviews on his Facebook page.

^ ^ ^ sweet tip... THANKS! Very much looking forward to this. It looks phenomenal. And I’m definitely racking up some souvenirs, have been checking out their homepage and budgeting. Some of the reviews I’ve read have been quite positive.

Saw this in LA in late October and was blown away! A fantastic production:)

I saw it today and overall had a great time.

The choreography had a very modern/interpretive dance feel to it which I don't personally care for, but that's a taste thing on my part and it was technically well done. Musically it was amazing, with very strong singers and instrumentation that seems very heavily inspired by the concept album, which is a plus for me.

Go! Best staged version I've seen so far.

Since the show is only 90 minutes with no intermission I’m looking at trying to buy another ticket while it’s up in Pittsburgh. Keeping my eye open on the very limited availability to see if any front orchestra or front balcony seats open up for that weekend.

In what world is JCS 90 mins without intermission?

Every theater on the tour is listing it as -

Run Time: 90 minutes with no intermission

I wanted to see it in LA but wasn't able to find information on whether it's equity or not and I don't want to pay the same amount for a tour that isn't giving it's actors the same protections as an equity tour. This isn't a jab to the quality for performances BTW, more to the people profiting most. Anyways, I couldn't find that information for JCSS

Interesting. They must have cut something to fit it into a one-act. Anyone who has seen it know what they cut/have a song list?

First off, it's an equity tour.

Also, it doesn't surprise me that there's no intermission. It isn't a long show. If memory serves the UK arena tour preformed it without one. But, typically the act one closer is Damned For All Time/Blood Money. However, the entire running time of the show is about an hour and forty min. So it can be. I don't know the history of the show too well to know if it's common or not.

No cuts, but it did go pretty quickly from song to song.

How fascinating. I've never seen it done as a one act.

There are no cuts. The original concept album clocks in slightly under 90 minutes and this production does move quickly from song to song with little opportunity for applause. Personally, I still would have preferred an intermission though.

Watch Pittsburgh's seating maps in the days surrounding the event. Usually some good ones pop up then,or the morning-of.

I've even called the box office as soon as they open, while I'm driving to Pittsburgh for a matinee, and have had good luck being able to pay to upgrade my seat if they've opened any up. Their box office staff are so helpful (PlayhouseSquare's staff could learn a few things from them).

Unfortunately JCS is in town during a busy week for me, so I'll be catching this one in Cleveland in March.

Let us know how you like it!

^ ^ ^ Thats how I was able to move my season ticket up, by watching the seat maps on daily basis, several times a day. It’s not that my season tickets are in a bad spot, but they’re not front row balcony. JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR 50th Anniversary Tour I have the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust page for JCS earmarked on my iPhone’s Home Screen.

I saw it Friday evening (12/20) at the Hippodrome in Baltimore. I thought it was amazing. It was 100 minutes long, no intermission. It moves fast without much chance to applaud, although for a few songs, people just *had* to applaud and squeezed some clapping in. It was very intense especially seeing it five days before Christmas. I am seriously thinking about buying tickets to see it in Hartford CT at the end of February.

Overall, it was mediocre. Very few highlights...mainly the couple songs from Mary Magdalene. The actor who played Judas has a good singing voice but when he tried to sing the high parts, he ended up shouting rather than singing the words.

Received today from the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust my “Brush Up” email for the show next weekend - “The full history of the Broadway musical Jesus Christ Superstar, from its conceptual beginnings as a rock album, to rumors of John Lennon’s involvement in the stage production, to the musical’s official premiere in Pittsburgh’s own Civic Arena before it ran as a Broadway production.” It included these links:
