Need some help with a starting point here. Didn't want to derail the other studio apartment thread either, so I figured id make one for people looking for roommates. My goal is to spend around, give or take a few hundred, $1K per month on a room. Preferably, id like to have 2 roommates max. I have been looking in Brooklyn at Bushwick, BedStuy, Williamsburgh if the right option comes around, but am open to more recommendations. Astoria is an option as well.
Really just looking for some help starting off this process. Without living in NYC or the tri state area its a very daunting search to begin, and I'll take any help I can get! Thank you in advance for your thoughtful responses.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
Thanks for the article, was just looking for some ideas. Google isn’t always the best answer for things. If you google broadway tickets Broadway.com comes up first. Case and point.
Earlier this year, my roommate decided he wanted to move to LA, so I decided to take over our lease on my own and look for someone to fill his room. I used Roomi and found it to be a safe, trustworthy resource. I had to spend some time sorting through the profiles and responses to my listing to identify the people I would really feel comfortable with, but I definitely found some worthwhile candidates through their app/website.
At the last minute my roommate decided to stay in NYC and I let him stay in the apartment so I can't speak to the long term success of a roommate pairing from Roomi, but I can say that it's at least a safe, legit option for looking for someone.
When my sister and I were looking for a roommate, we listed our room on SpareRoom and went to one of their Speed Roommating events. We didn't meet anyone good at Speed Roommating, but that was more because people there didn't want long-term leases or wanted to be in a different neighborhood than our apartment. A lot of great potential roommates found our listing on SpareRoom and came to look at the apartment, but we wound up going with a friend whose lease happened to be ending just when we'd need someone. I'm going to be looking for two roommates when our lease expires next year, and likely will go through SpareRoom again.
When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain.
