I think David Shiner was the “issue” if there was one. Everyone seemed to have a problem with his Cat in the Hat. The show was better reviewed when Cathy Rigby took over. Personally, I thought the design was better on Broadway than the version that eventually went out on tour, again with Rigby in the lead. The authors made some small changes to the lyrics and they cut “A Day For the Cat in the Hat” which eliminated the Cat in the Hat story from the plot all together and just made him a narrator. I think the show was actually better on Broadway. The only thing that was improved for the tour was Rigby’s aerial stunts, “swimming” around the stage for the McElligot’s Pool sequence. That was a lot of fun. On Broadway there was no wire work for that scene. It was a dance sequence instead.

It suffered, IMO, from the kitchen sink. Too many damn stories/characters jammed in. I think this is the only show where I thought the Junior versionz in its brevity, was a better show.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
